This seems crazy until you remember that Nicholas Hoult is really the biggest star between all 3 of them.
O yea this is a confirmed classic now, can’t wait until I watch on Saturday .
He hated The Batman as well
Some background:
I’ve been a Superman fan practically since I was a baby. One of the first movies I remember seeing at home was the Donner film (and II). The first live action TV show I got into was Smallville when I was like 8. I would put on Cartoon Network every time I’d see Justice League on the guide. I’ve related heavily to past portrayals of Superman because of what the character stands for along with being someone who lost their father at a young age. So there is some bias towards the character and the movie itself in my thoughts.
Superman may be the perfect representation of a comic book movie. It’s not afraid of being a comic book movie. It embraces the fact that it is based on a comic book. I feel, for me, that it is amongst the greatest comic book movies of all time.
This film is what I always imagined what a live action DCAU would look like. It really does feel like an episode of Superman: The Animated Series or Justice League Unlimited in the absolute best way. While watching this I was easily able to picture what was happening on screen in Bruce Timm’s style. I was grinning from ear to ear for the entire runtime.
Superman at its core is about humanity. What it means to be human. David Corenswet may be the best all around interpretation of Superman. From the physicality, to how he talks, how he saves people. He is Superman.
I go on for much longer on Letterboxd but to sum the rest up:
Superman does for Superman what The Batman did for Batman. Bring a definitive portrayal of an iconic hero to the screen. A portrayal that is faithful to every fiber of the character over the last 80 or so years. I truly believe with this film, James Gunn has cemented himself as the best comic book filmmaker of all time. All hits, no misses. I am very excited to see where The DC Universe goes from here, especially where we see Superman next.
5 out of 5
I don’t like Superman at all, but this review is making me feel like I NEED to watch it immediately
I’m glad you loved it and connected with it man, I’m glad it was everything you wanted and more
Tonight
Movie flopped
DC forever ruined

Gonna post my thoughts after work cause there’s too much atm
But after my viewing last night I went home and watched JLU until I fell asleep
O yea this is a confirmed classic now, can’t wait until I watch on Saturday .
He hated The Batman as well
Has he ever reviewed any movie positively or does he only do this with movies steeped in the “culture war”?
it’s up there with some of the worst blockbuster films ever made, i think the film got switched at my cinema 🫤
So f***ing beautiful
What a f***ing blockbuster
I must watch this again asap!
Felt so good after watching this
As good as these movies get....
Really loved the lived-in universe aspect of it. Every character shined, apart from maybe the Kents. I feel like the movie was lacking one classic pep talk scene between them and Clark or some emotional moment in general or something that really brings it all together.
Mr. Terrific was really cool, add him to JL instead of Cyborg.
The sad thing is I won't have time in 2-3 years to watch these regularly when the universe would really find some momentum.
Something about it really reminded me of The Flash (compliment cause I love that movie apart from the obvious rushed CGI at the end).
