Y’all should’ve put bruh on goofy time instead of going back and forth.
I testified on OG KTT all 2018 about Victory Lap being rap AOTY, classic. I liked what I had heard from him prior but Victory Lap blew me away and you could tell a lot of work was put into that album. Of course death speeds things up but he released his most successful project that got lots of AOTY talk on social media and received a Grammy nomination without any hits off the strength of the music. His popularity was trending upwards regardless

exactly. nipsey wouldve been huge, and exactly what hip hop needed imo. him and pop smoke were beacons of realness, and im not talking about their street ties.
f***ing shame theyre both dead.
a year of people pretending to like they paid any attention to him when he was alive
rip tho

lots of people f***ed with Nipsey

He had good songs and was one of the few rappers who always spoke up about owning businesses, investing in communities and giving back to the hood like rick ross and jay-z
That alone is enough to be celebrated by casual fans

Going to the marathon store after his death was tough man
i want to order merch, but want to pick it up in person.
i was gonna travel to LA in a week, but something came in the way...
a year of people pretending to like they paid any attention to him when he was alive
rip tho
you can be a known artist without being known by the whole world
he wouldve been become bigger, but his first album got nominated for best rap album, he got praise when he was alive g
It still doesn't feel real... I remember I was sitting in my room the entire day constantly refreshing my twitter feed because I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to... this was someone who I had been listening to since The Marathon dropped around my freshman year of high school. I had seen him grow and mature not only as an artist, but as a man who had a family and was always giving back to the community. His music got me through the lowest points of my life and inspired me to keep moving forward.
Going to work the next day was one of the hardest things I had to do since graduating college. I took a walk to get out of the office and there was someone in my building's parking lot who had their windows down bumping Double Up and we just had a short conversation about how much his music touched our lives, and that put in me such a better mood. A year later, it's nice to see that he's still being celebrated. May the marathon continue 🏁
Look, my nigga this is dedication
This is anti-hesitation
This a real nigga celebration
This a Dime Blocc declaration
Fifty-Ninth and Fifth Ave, granny house with vanilla wafers
This the remedy, the seperation
2Pac of my generation
Blue pill in the f***in' Matrix
Red rose in the gray pavement
Young black nigga trapped and he can't change it
Know he a genius, he just can't claim it
'Cause they left him no platforms to explain it
He frustrated so he get faded
But deep down inside he know you can't fade him
How long should I stay dedicated?
How long 'til opportunity meet preparation?
I need some real nigga reparations
Before I run up in your bank just for recreation
Dedication, hard work plus patience
The sum of all my sacrifice, I'm done waitin'
I'm done waitin', told you that I wasn't playin'
Now you hear what I been sayin', dedication

man, that story is crazy. i felt similar. lotta rappers died the past couple years, but it never affected me crazy. nips death hit me like a brick, and it still doesnt feel real today.
never heard the song you linked, its fire. are x-tra laps victory lap leftovers?

These were leftovers from The Marathon/The Marathon Continues sessions that were released in 2012. A lot of hidden gems on this tape. Definitely check it out
Look, this ain't entertainment, it's for niggas on the slave ship
These songs just the spirituals, I swam against them waves with
Ended up on shore to their amazement
Now I hope the example I set's not contagious
Lock us behind gates but can't tame us
Used to be stay safe, now it's stay dangerous
'Cause ain't no point in playing defense nigga
That's why I dove off the deep end nigga
Without a life jacket
Couple mil, tour the world, dogg my life crackin'
Cook the books, bring it back so it's no taxes
Royalties, publishing, plus I own masters
I'll be damned if I slave for some white crackers
I was mappin' this out, I hit the heist backwards
Hoppin' out the eighty-five in Reebok classics
Ran a couple marathons just to get established
To make it happen, you got to have it
how did this guy wash kendrick on this track?
lyricism is crazy
This one of the best verses ever tbh, too much realness
