I mean, I'd compare it to Parasite in terms of a more independent movie that breaks into the zeitgeist based purely on the high quality of the art.

Lights didn’t come up when my screening ended and I already googled and found out there was no mid/post credits scenes but I didn’t have the heart to tell them as I dipped out.
I sat through all the credits and some guy was outside like "Marvel has rotted the brains of movie goers" and I looked at them and said "actually I just like Mitski and David Byrne" and they shut up real quick

That conversation with Evelyn and Joy at the end had me holding down some deep seated s***. And you could feel the emotion in the room throughout the movie. When Evelyn’s rock chased after Joy’s? S***.
So happy for Michelle Yeoh, she’s been one of the best actresses in the world for a long time and the one time a Hollywood production trusts her with a starring role she knocks that s*** out of the post code. And what a career revival for Ky Huy Quan, when he was in that alleyway on some In The Mood For Love s*** he looked like a superstar.
Can’t wait to watch this at home again but with subs to make sure I didn’t miss anything in the dialogue.
Jamie Lee Curtis did a Torture Rack Backbreaker in this movie. What more could you want?

Seems like most articles I've seen say that the film is doing very well and will grow as word of mouth continues.
That might change though because of a******s online trying to make it a moral mission of theirs to complain about anything popular or critically acclaimed.

EEAaO isn’t even remotely an independent movie, it’s been made by A24, one of the biggest studios in Hollywood now. It was always gonna be put through the zeitgeist just because of who made it.

Fair enough, man. I'm not in that group, was just saying I put this up there as one of the best theatrical experiences of my life. I went into this and Parasite both completely blind and was blown away both times.
I def feel like detractors comparing the two are being racist af, and a lot of them are the same group that reacted so ridiculously to Turning Red. It's pretty transparent.

HeelKylothe corny zaniness really just takes away from any potential emotional attachment i could have towards the characters. we’ve all seen the immigrant moves to America and family has trouble adapting trope done better. everything was either too drawn out or so compacted that it made the intention fall flat.
it lived up to the visual hype and there was some funny moments throughout the movie. all in all though i really didn’t enjoy my experience watching this.
yeah this is how I feel I think. my girl and my friend were both really impressed and happy and enjoyed the f*** out of it. I kinda didn't feel the beats that everyone is feeling I guess. there's just too much going on for me to fully feel the emotional depths of the movie, there were a couple of moments that really had me thinking I was about to get emotional, but then something wild happens and it was gone.
I think the movie doesn't let emotional moments breathe long enough for me maybe

Idk, I feel like there's plenty of scenes that are given time to breathe to have their full emotional impact.
yeah im not sure. I wish it hit me harder. my favorite scene was when
waymond was speaking to rich and famous Evelyn out on the street telling her how in another life he would have been happy just doing laundry and taxes with her
it reminded me of chungking express a bit and the emotion there just made me wish the whole movie was like that. I loved certain aspects so much but overall it was just a mixed bag for me.
the whole jobu tupaki thing did not work for me. I get it that its the whole multiverse thing and shes the "one true villain" because of how Evelyn treats her and stuff, but like it was too jokey for me. reminded me of scott pilgrim v the world (which I enjoy) but it didn't gel well with the overall meaning and emotional depth that they were trying to get at for me
