I try not to go into movies wanting or expecting anything.
But for me what it felt like was just one giant second act and then an ending.
It just started dragging and by the time the ending did come I was a little checked out.
Nah thats fair I definitely feel that especially with how chapters were split up
If we're just saying "it didn't move us" it's because were glad y'all enjoyed it so much and don't want to bring the thread down by listing the countless things about it that made our heads hurt
say them all

Yeah for sure, chapter split ups always seem to have an effect on pacing cause they just remind you you have more movie left. I definitely felt jarred when I first saw āAll At Onceā but then right after I was like ok weāre on to something else awesome now
Speed Racer did the overwhelming alot ness while juggling silly with emotional alot better for me. Seventh Seal is as grim as it's reputed to be but also hilarious and beautiful a good chunk of the time. The Master. Night Of The Hunter. All my favourites straddle the line. This just didn't connect with me as a 5th generation Canadian with mental health relatively stable. Grew up doing martial arts with immigrants so I could somewhat appreciate where it's coming from but still didnt connect.
Damn, you hit me with Speed Racer The Master and Night of the Hunter praise. Good play, Elric. Good play. By didnāt connect, do you mean it felt inauthentic, or not true to Life?

Like I'm just not the target audience for those themes so it didn't work any sort of magic on me. Obviously it was authentic for a s***load of people and I can understand why.
how many years y'all gonna do this
like if the criticism is constructive people don't care the only reason it hasn't gone well in the past is personal attacks, attacking the director personally, saying anyone who likes something is wrong. If people have constructive reasons like pacing, third act or articulating something of value no one cares.
If something just called trash and bad every single post or quoting everyone who likes it with "nah its trash omg it shouldn't exist" people care. But if you didn't connect with this movie 100% no one should be mad at you for it and if they are I will be the first to say "chill".
Calling it a disney movie wild to me though but it is what it is
This and RRR are the two movies where I donāt get the hype. Both enjoyable movies I guess but definitely didnāt view either as masterpieces. And like I said with this movie that dragging 3rd act is what killed it for me.
And usually Iām all in on the hyped up movies. Iāve given enough praise to Parasite on this site and was expecting this to be the same due to all the comparisons. But nope, not at all.

RRR is amazing whenever itās an action scene. But thereās too many cliches in the actual plot for it to be an amazing experience from beginning to end.

I think this movie was great going in low hype or no hype. Like yes it had good reviews when I saw it and some love but critics and I sometimes don't 100%. Like Marcel the snail had crazy good reviews but I was kind of zoned out of it

Lol feel that was impossible with this movie. Everywhere I looked everyone was going crazy over this movie.
And Iām optimistic, I want movies that I watch to turn out great and enjoyable. I donāt do the whole āhate watchā thing

nah when it was just reviewers and early previews yes they were hyped but they kind of kept it vague on the why. Going into the movie the trailers were good at keeping most of it a surprise
watching rn and this s*** is ass
Really puttin the L in your name today, huh?

These are some what fair but its been 20 years since both. It isn't fully like either one listed. S*** I think of like The Science of Sleep perhaps. Definitely a long the line of Gondry. Its surreal but its a family American tale. I get not liking it. I think it was best in theaters personally but if you got to go 20 years back to think of movies like it then it definitely belongs
