I do think that when an artist pivots to a style of music they don't normally do, they often don't put as much effort into doing an interesting version of that sound and sort of coast on 'Hey! It's ME doing THIS!' instead of thinking like an artist who's been working in that lane for a long time

This is a really valid criticism, and I still totally f*** with this song. But I really get this take and can even see it with the song. I’m someone who comes from basically growing up on alternative / emo / indie / hardcore etc, I didn’t really develop a relationship with hiphop until senior year of highschool (I’m early 30s now). While I just generally f*** with Rocky, and I like what he’s doing here it does sort of just feel like indie-rock-lite.

That being said, sometimes an artist just does something simple and it can work. This is a case of that for me, but yeah - definitely not mind blowing at all if you come from this world of music

this is what I was trying to say earlier. I realize I came through with the odee hyperbole and it’s something I’m working on. But yeah that’s what Rocky has been like to me these last few years honestly.
