I like some of the songs, but this album is still a major let down to me. Like how are you gonna keep your fans waiting for three years on new music and keep teasing an album and then drop something that felt like it was made in 2 months? You could tell it was because all of the vocals sound tired out from touring so much. The T.I. feature tease, call drop$ (I’m still not sure what they were thinking with that one) and a bunch of left over tracks just ruin this for me.

Not to mention it’s called “Testing.” As if to indicate that this was an album experimenting with new sounds and ideas. This is pretty standard, even for Rocky’s standards.

(Tone Bone OG Beeper are great tho)

if this album had a different name it would be received very differently

Second half of this album is Rockys greatest work. If the album started at Calldrops it would instantly have been my #1 for 2018

this album didn’t live up to what it was supposed to be but it’s still great

    amazing creative direction

The answer is yams. He directed rockys output to the extent of choosing the beats.

Genuinely curious what people were exactly let down by?

Rocky stepped out of his comfort zone and delivered a really intriguing project filled with production and features you don’t hear on a regular hip hop album.

Touched base with familiar sounds and managed to branch out and experiment with tracks. Distorted Records opens up and instantly you can tell the project will be offering something fresh. Then ASAP Forever is such a solid & certified slapper with a vintage Cudi feature. Buck Shots is going to be featured in the next Blade Runner.

You got FKA Twigs, Frank Ocean & Dev Hynes providing some gorgeous melodies. Some of the most critically acclaimed and respectable artists. No one is rapping on beats like Kids Turned Out Fine, perfect summer track. Changes is the culmination of mixing these sounds together. Can go on but I know some cuck is gonna reply with “bro wrote an essay” like I ain’t on a music discussion forum.

  • The visuals for Testing were on point. The music, not so much......

They're let down because it's not the same music he made almost 10 years ago...but then say he hasn't shown growth.

Fans will justify an artists moves.

    Even the bad ones.

How can yall consider an album this divisive good?

It split his fanbase in half. A good album shouldn't lose you fans.

Yet yall refuse to admit that this wasnt it

Not a bad song in this

Kid A was one of the most divisive albums ever when it dropped.

imo it’s a really good album for what it is and considering the artistic situation rocky was in but it could’ve been a lot better in execution

he could’ve gone two obvious ways that would’ve made it better

    A. include a lot of the snippets for the album that never came out (Lightning, On a Cloud, Wok CDQ, Opposition, GUE$$, Testing the Kid, Heaven) and cut some of the weaker tracks that didn’t really have direction (OG Beeper, CALLDROPS)

    B. Go full on in the industrial sound and aesthetic that the album was supposed to head into on that you can hear on tracks like Distorted Records and Buckshots
