And the sonic composition of Thursday is reflective of that.
Thursday is by far, his most incoherent, meandering piece of work, even among the other two mixtapes that makeup Trilogy.
Thursday, the self-titled track, is literally 5 minutes of Abel mumbling days of the week over a beat that quietly fades in and then as the song comes to a close, fades out hauntingly.
Similarly, The Zone runs itself into incoherent silence until Drake appears and anchors its structure back to that of a more traditional song.
Gone perhaps exemplifies my point the best. At just over 8 minutes, Gone is Abel at his most intoxicated. In his interview with complex he admits that he doesn’t even know the lyrics to this song and that it was a freestyle, clearly incited during a d***-fuelled haze. Gone is a complete attack on the senses, its so twitchy and restless.
When asked by Zane Lowe during their Apple Music interview when was the time that he fell the deepest into addiction he remarks "not recently. . . At the beginning of the career".
While we know that his tough streetlife that preceded HoB was frequented by d*** abuse, the period between HoB and Thursday seems to to be what he is referring to in the interview. After the success of HoB, Abel no doubt cashed out on d**** both as a means of celebration, as well as in an attempt to cope with his newfound fame.
It is this period that informed upon Thursday's sound.
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the period after Kiss Land came out but before BBTM when he was lurking around Vegas and got arrested for headbutting that cop. He was messed up for shows around that time too.

He got arrested in 2015 which was only a year before the Zane Lowe interview so I feel like him saying “not recently” kinda makes me feel like he wasn’t talking about that imo
I can see this though. Thursday always felt the rawest and “unfinished” to me if that makes sense so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was when he was peaking.
It’s very all over the place and doesn’t really follow a cohesive sound but I think that’s what made it sound so raw because it really is just the d**** taking over Abel. IIRC Gone was just an 8 minute freestyle when Abel was high

Yes, his exact words are
"There are lyrics on Thursday, I don’t even know what the f*** I said. “Gone” was a complete freestyle."
I remember never liking Gone and Heaven or Las Vegas from Thursday at first, but I got a fever. Popped some medicine and somehow it got me faded asf and after listening to Gone and Heaven or Las Vegas while being faded from the medicine the songs hit whole lotta differently

funny cause i think hob is way more over the place than thursday lmao
Thursday definitely has that feeling like it wasnt made on this planet lmfao.
The coke in the studio that time was probably insane

Interesting, why do you say that?
To me the three tapes always felt like three parts of one night; HOB being the pregame or whatever, THU being the party, and EOS being the afterparty
HOB feels like its all taking place in one room the entire time, like in a studio apartment and very tight and small. I think that’s why it feels so cohesive to me.

that makes sense actually
I just think sonically thursday is more focused. HoB feels like they had too many ideas, good ones btw, and just let them happen without thinking too much.
In my opinion The Birds songs are kind of the heart of Thursday

Spurs fan myself due to dad but my housemate is a Liverpool fan and since he's into football more than me essentially makes me an honorary supporter as facetious as that sounds
At this point watched more Liverpool games than Spurs ones
