isn’t it stupid that for example a black and white couple have a kid and that kid is automatically labeled black?
It’s kinda sick how they created that rule so white ppl can stay 100% white and the 50% white are seen as the other race
I mean all my life I’ve been hearing my mixed (black+white usually) friends say “I don’t feel like I’m black/white enough” bc in society’s eyes they are black but in reality they are a mix of both and that’s okay
should we abolish that rule? #roommates
I always see mixed people as being labeled mix, I think it has more to do with the skin tone, look at logic.
Can’t wait till a few generations from now when everyone is mixed, all humans have the same skin color, and people stop giving a s*** about what race other people are
We’ll still somehow find a way to divide and hate each other tho

I guess in a country where black people are the majority mixed kids are seen as white

true but then he still said stuff about not being black enough
it’s like they gotta pick a side (usually the black one) and then some black ppl are like “you aren’t black enough!” so they are left confused
I feel like that rule messed things up

I see what you're saying, truly it probably still stems from deep rooted racism.

There will never be a time we’re all the same skin color because there are far more of some races than others lol
what rule aint not rules
if u a mix and yo skin black, u are black
if yo skin white, you're white
theres not a philosophy to this, its perception
We as black people label them black because we’re usually the ones that fully accept them as one of us. I know it has roots in segreagation but it’s that simple these days
its not that crazy tbh

I agree with all of this
I made this thread bc literally all my mixed friend went thru that “not enough” phase so I was like man what’s up with that

Yeah I’m half white half Nigerian and from my understanding it’s about the tone of skin and what people typically see you as. I do resonate with OP though in the idea that often times growing up I felt like an outlier in both circumstances. I quickly realized the s*** doesn’t matter and like if anything it gives me a much better capability to empathize other’s and with people who fee like outsiders

Tell em that they aren’t alone in their feelings and that they shouldn’t feel invalidated by their experiences. This is speaking from someone who is mixed as well

that’s a nice message
Anyone who doesn’t believe that someone having an African mother/father is an African has self hatred in their heart

Yeah I agree with this to be honest. It’s a little more understandable than someone who straight up black being like a Candice Owens type. Still problematic in my opinion. I’d say at the very least, you could identify as a white passing mixed person but still support black lives and social issues

hopefully not lol

agreed and mixed ppl shouldnt be grouped into being black or white based on skin tone. mixed ppl are mixed let that be a separate but equal group

"I used to get teased for being black
And now I'm here and I'm not black enough"
i won't pretend to know the struggle cause i'm white but a lot of my family is mixed and they connect more with being black and black culture, most likely because 1) my family and their ancestors are incredibly racist, and 2) they've experienced systematic racism for being black regardless of being half-white.
mixed people from what i've seen get the short end of the stick every time. there's no winning.
