Okay now that i have been able to sit with it for a while it's def not Control System tier, and Nas got RAOTY
BUT
its a return to form, he was very focused on this project and it paid off
Wish he tried a bit less to cater to the large crowd on this album since it didn't even result in good first week sales anyway
Hopefully he gets into his experimental bag after this one again but this time pairs it with the same energy and focus he had on this album
Great album nonetheless
Kendrick had RAOTY but otherwise this is a good post

I don't love the Kendrick album outside a couple of tracks, grew on me a bit but still not all that to me
Experimentation doesn't always result in something great but i like how people respected the move

I'm gonna be honest, Nas hasn't really grabbed my ear and made me revisit a project in a while. I loved his contributions to hip hop over the years, he is a legend, but I just can't bring myself to replay his new s*** after 1st listen. Very boring stuff for the most part. I like the experimentation. A Danny Brown album will always grab me more than a trap album.

King Disease II & III are anything but boring. Every other bar is a gem by one of the greatest to ever do it. And he finally has consistent production that he was missing for a large portion of his career
It's a feast for the pure hiphop fan
This man still has stories to tell and his lyrics are so mature and real
But tbh that's how i feel with Kendricks recent album as well in a way, he tries plenty of different things so idk if boring is the right word but i def don't want to revisit it much
There's not a single kind of scenario where i'm with other people and would like to throw Big Steppers on that i can think of
And when i'm alone, or want some conscious music to listen to there's so many better things to listen to imo
So it just ends up still being this ugly duckling in his discog that's in a weird spot of i respect it but i don't vibe with it

Its cool dog its why we are all our own human beings. Its also where a message board like this shines, if the discourse doesn't turn toxic and mature adults are able to talk about stuff
