And about 22 mins late coming in
Variety: “shrill and self-righteous”
Hollywood Reporter: “insufferably smug”
IndieWire: “self-importance has dulled one of Hollywood’s funniest minds”
Next Best Picture: “can’t resist talking down to the audience”
Guardian: “not really working at its own chosen level of megaphone comedy”
Vanity Fair: “an impenetrable layer of smugness”
Slant: “bland, unnecessarily bloated, and incredibly self-satisfied”
The Wrap: “it’s enough to turn a tree hugger into a pro-fracker”
Slashfilm: “an excuse for smug, self-righteous liberals to bask in how smart they are”
The Playlist: “absolutely exhausting”
critics
im sorry but
anchorman - fire, one of the greatest comedies OAT
talladega nights - fire
step brothers - fire, one of the greatest comedies OAT
other guys - fire, underrated
anchorman 2 - mid
the big short - fire, one of the best mainstream films of the 2010s
vice - pretty good
im gonna reserve judgement til i see this myself, he's made too many great movies to listen to the critics on this one.
Yeah I see why this has mixed reviews holy hell I did laugh a few times but this became so corny with its heavy handed “this is our society now” commentary
It’s only cute/clever within the first act & this movie was too long and the fast paced editing didn’t help it was starting to drag
Leo was fine, even though it felt like he was sleep walking hes still entertaining
Jeniffer was meh.
Jonah was funny, a highlight
Timothy was a pointless storyline & gave me ptsd of Theo in the YOU series
Cate Blanchette was pretty much in the same boat as Timothy just longer and less obnoxious
Ariana/Cudi is just social commentary on how obsessed we are about celebs
Myrl Streep was okay this was just easy money for her
As for the ending:
5/10 probably will never watch again
i should’ve waited for it to come to netflix

Shalamay is always a guaranteed skip

just finished rewatching big short again
great movie
society the movie
Shalamay is always a guaranteed skip
Only other thing I saw him in was Dune so I really don’t have much grounds to critique him
His screen time was short here I just think he could of been cut out completely & it wouldn’t change a thing story wise
society the movie

Jonah seemed so excited for this character too, will prob be the only reason I check it out on Netflix
