1st half of the movie was s*** but it got better 2nd half. Jonah Hill was the best thing here. 5.5/10. It was enjoyable though
Watched yesterday all I can say about it is I wanna have s***with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Lawrence
Covid
Pretty sure this was scripted before covid. This about climate change.
Covid
Definitely climate change fam. But the covid shoe easily fits some of it
McKay's new production company Hyperobject Industries is a reference to Timothy Morton btw. V interesting philosopher mainly concerned with how we need to re-think philosophy itself so that we learn to care about our ecosystem better. Made a video essay partly about them last semester
this movie was mid
only upside was seeing merryl streeps naked ass
99 % a stunt ass
still can't get over how much better it was the second time. jonah hill's "prayer for stuff" got the biggest laugh for me. when he talks about "watches and sick apartments" or whatever and it cuts to that family gathered around the small tv... i lost it
decent movie
solid a***ogy
not that funny tho
good commentary on American politics, not enough looking at the left tho, its entirely an attack on right wingers. which like I feel he's missing his own point there.
the most ironic thing is a movie criticizing purely symbolic opposition of climate change, capitalist/consumerist culture, and celebrity worship while somehow being all of these things itself

Lowkey it’s s***ting on all politics.
overrated as shhhhhhhhhhhhhhit.
plot made no sense.
thought that if they kept certain lines going there would be more room to parody real world events in an exaggerated form but idk..just seems like the movie was scared of its own potential.
also J law is .....NOT good here. she doesnt sell the character that they were trying to go for...AT ALL.
tim charlamagnes ending prayer was the best part of this movie

This would’ve been funny as f*** in 2013 around the time gta v came out
Would’ve been crazy if this came out around when The Big Short did

not having some sort of unified worldwide response to this in the movie was imo a missed opportunity. IRL thats definitely what would have happened. out of all the people that watch the sky, the americans were the ones to find it and it took how long for ppl to believe it?
i believe that there would have been more potential to exaggerate real world politics especially on a more global scale and parody it as well.
plot wise it makes no sense. genre wise it didnt shoot for the moon. the movie mostly j*rks itself 0ff to an unsatisfying degree.

If you genuinely believe that, then you gotta have zero irl experience. Every reaction in film to the comet isn’t even made up, it’s based on decades long reactions to global warming and recent reactions to Covid.
