Hey im 22 years old just got a really good job but its kinda far from where i stay so i know im a little late but i really need to get a drivers license
i have a few questions regarding the process i know its different for each state but

    1) i live alone and i dont even have access to a car to practice in, now i guess i could find a good driving school but will i need my permit first? i figured since im not a teen i dont need it but is it required or should i just take it anyway?

    2) my state id expires soon, will i need a state id before i apply for my drivers license to take to the dmv only other valid id i have is a copy of my birth certificate

    3) once i get my drivers license how hard is it to get a car without any credit? i'll obviously be a first time buyer no cosigner i'd have a decent amount of money saved up/proof of income by that time but is it even possible to buy a car without any credit at all with a decent down payment like 20%

i know most people had parents to help them with this but im alone and kinda confused wondering if there was anyone else who had to go through a similar process

I got my permit after already being enrolled in driving school. You don’t need to already have a permit before signing up for it. It’s not required, but it will help you since you don’t have prior experience driving.

I’m sure you will need a valid ID or some sort of proof of identity (birth certificate, social security card, etc.), but I’m not sure. Don’t remember what I did for this process. Check the website to see what forms of ID are required for you to sign up for the test.

If you don’t have established credit, you may have to get a cash car or look to purchase one directly from an owner. I’m not sure how purchasing from a dealer would work if you don’t have established credit of some sort or a co-signer. Maybe someone else has some better answers.

Also, where I’m from you had to bring a car in for the driving test. So, you may have to look into borrowing someone’s car the day of.

Tried my best to answer. Good luck.

    1) I believe laws vary from state to state (assuming you’re US) so I would look into that before you make the assumption. They may still require new drivers to obtain a certain amount of permitted driving hours no matter how old they are.

    2) Your drivers license will be your ID. If you’ll get your license before your ID expires then it’s moot but if not then you should renew it just in case. Birth certificate should work as a verifiable form of ID.

    3) it’s going to be difficult as you have no proven record dealing with a credit. Putting down a good chunk of money on an **affordable** (can’t emphasize this enough) car and it should get you a decent rate.

If you have any other questions I’ll be glad to help bro

Nervous about getting a cheap used car? I don't blame you if you're driving a lot, just wondering if you're set on financing or a lease.

S*** I did. It's funny how family out of state be eager to teach you how to drive, but supposed "family" nearby don't have the time

Don't finance, buy a used car if you have money saved up

  • Sep 15, 2020

Buy a used car. Honda or Toyota. It’ll last you a while.

Driving school is your best bet because you don't have anyone to teach you. I would recommend you get your permit and have someone teach you if you did.

Just buy yourself a car that works with the money that you have saved up. You don't need a badass car for your first car. You just need something that gets you from point a to b.
