They really should do an anthology following different trainers per generation.
Ash's story should be done. He's literally the Goat.
Anything they do from here besides a mentor role would be a disservice to the character and audience.

That battle with Paul was the craziest battle ever
Going thru all that just for some random guy to pop up with some legendaries and kick his ass the next round like wtf…didn’t make any sense at all
Went downhill from there and never really had interest in the show after that s***
