Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine, claimed the reason no women or people of color appear in his upcoming book of interviews with rock stars was because “none of them were . . . articulate enough” on an “intellectual level.”
Pressed to defend his comments in light of figures such as Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, and Stevie Wonder, Wenner doubled down on his statement. “Go have a deep conversation with Grace Slick or Janis Joplin. Please, be my guest,” Wenner pushes back. “You know, Joni was not a philosopher of rock ’n’ roll. She didn’t, in my mind, meet that test. Not by her work, not by other interviews she did. The people I interviewed were the kind of philosophers of rock.”
“Of Black artists — you know, Stevie Wonder, genius, right? I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level,” Wenner maintained in a wide-ranging interview with the New York Times published on Friday.
You gon have to excuse a brother for not believing that these publications are the end all be all of a damn thing
Another brother has seen the light
i don't care what race the critics and journalists are
i only care about what they have to say
i don't know why you bring race into this when i just want to listen to music
i never said anything negative about your favorite music but when i post mine people just want to spread negativity
s*** like that is just lame
sorry champ, caring about what critic has to say is caring about a critic lol. and you only keep renaming two shows you obviously have a favorite and care.
do you not understand that is literally race specific based on the time?
do you not understand black bands were barred from ads, perfromances and labels? thus they were literally blackballed out from being known outside of ghettos?
do you not understand that is also race specific based on the time? where black bands were crtiqued way hasher, ignored, again blackballed, and not even critqued on their own genre but pitted against others. do you not understand that leads to a lower score and a cultural thought they are lesser than? which then the genre only gets "respect" by only most white circles of the time that lead to a cultural idea that the "black" way of doing is inherently inferior and they would literally say its demonic and deprived in the bible thumping era. do you not understand this literal fact? and how a publication that isnt even blues centric wouldnt be able to crtique properly blues music and will have bias and lean more towards pop and other forms of rock like publications you keep vomiting? like going to popcrave for an opinion on rap and taking their review of Rakim as gospel and legit?
because it literaly is LOL. do you not understand a media that is racist towards a race that also happens to be the majority would be harsher on the race they hate and villanized and will automartically prop one of their own in comparison? do you not understand media and ad influence? sorry bud, the things you said and asked literally involve race, thats why. dont be mad at me, be mad at the times.
sorry, no one said anything about led zeppelin negatively until you made the false and ignorant statement about blues that would only get respected or listened to by pop and others that dont know blues. black, whit or purple. and there are white people that actually appreciate and know blues.
led zep isnt a theif like elvis and had respect and and work with other blues black artists. my crtique actually isnt on zep, its on you and those of your own like mind, that zep wouldnt evena agree with.
take your panties out the bunch and step into the real. your own head is not reality. and no one said you cant listen to him
elvis on the other hand is sus, but again, you dont live in reality, you live in emotion.

i most likely like your favorite music
i just have a bigger appreciation for a large amount of music so even if you find a few music artists that you dislike then you are vocal about it because you just want to provoke negative reactions
lol dont care - and what a pompous ass hurt assumption when i havent even insulted nor told you to do anything until my post above.
what i said is literal facts. historical and cultural.
no one cares about your blues opinion besides pop fans and critics that arent blues centric. including zep.
stick to saying what you, instead of trying to dive into deeper discussion around it.

i'm still going to listen to led zeppelin and they're still going to have more fans then your favorite band so it doesn't matter

Pick your fav American Idiot track. That’s the last one to make waves
American Idiot/Blvd of Broken Dreams were popular but SNA was iconic in a different way. Didn’t need to be a reaction to the zeitgeist to gain traction

The most evil thing about his line of thinking is that there were black people who made “rock” music that weren’t Curtis, Marvin or Stevie. George Clinton could absolutely hold his own against those stale white boys he picked. As well as Patti Smith.
Surprised no one said New York Dolls in 22 pages. Hipster fav
I love them more than Nirvana but would easily pick Nirvana over them

Seven Nation Army has only made it this far because it’s a ubiquitous sporting anthem
Hahaha no
Alice, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam were all better.
Faith no more were better.
lmao

In my heart Soundgarden & Faith No More are comparable but in terms of commercial success, it's not even close.

And American Idiot only gets brought up when conservatives do something stupid
i'm still going to listen to led zeppelin and they're still going to have more fans then your favorite band so it doesn't matter
