This was the one criticism I had of Blonde. While the tracks were great, they didn't really feel accessible aside from Nights.
Who tf cares about accessibility if the music is good
Blonde was cool but After Hours blows it out of the water. Weeknd is a better artist than Frank Ocean period.
Blonde may be a little more tame and safe, easy listening for some kind of Brooklyn dinner party or something. Channel Orange was definitely great in its own way. But I just gravitate to The Weeknd's vibe and music 100x more.
How the hell is Blonde safe and easy listening
I mean I see how in some ways it was experimental. But I just mean the slow acoustic "chill" nature of most of the tunes. 'nights' was good but I just wasn't really trying to hear most of that chill go-nowhere type of sound. "Nikes" also hasn't really aged super well IMO... whereas Weeknd sounds like a savage. Just look at any picture of Weeknd vs. any picture of Frank Ocean. frank ocean is like an energy vacuum, almost always seemingly like he doesn't want to be wherever he is, whereas Weeknd just exudes charisma and insouciance.

These new fans go too far too often.
AH seems reductive compared to his previous works and i don’t get this comparison. but maaybe i’m biased bc blonde is my fav album from frank

what a funny way of describing two grown men
Glad to see that there is even a debate. Says a lot about the quality of both albums.

That is kind of a fair point. It didn't really break that much new ground. Somewhere between starboy, after hours and MDM is a classic. something with the variety of starboy, the time/care taken of After Hours, and the genuine emotion/Trilogy vibes of MDM.
Then again the tracklist and flow of After Hours, as it is, is probably one of the best on any Weeknd project since Echoes of Silence
Blonde is an all time classic but After Hours is a masterpiece that’s only getting better with time...
I’m truly conflicted
