how many people can name five songs off of can't tell me nothing?
like most people our age and 15 years earlier. they might not know they're off that album but that's just a testament to it having resonated through the culture more. it literally defined a genre
It had longest shelf life so far I’ll give it that. Most albums have a life of maybe a week. Even Beyoncé came n went

Can’t tell me nothing is a mixtape..
Can’t tell me nothing is a mixtape..
I'm confused why did you compare it to that then?
Like it doesn't matter if we compare based solely on category. If you say "Top 5 discography" that includes whatever the most significant bodies of work including mixtapes and "playlists". Not just who had the most significant albums
I rather shove a subwoofer up my a****** and blast turban by yeat than listen to Mr morale

Because your saying that it doesn’t matter OD is a mixtape, Kanye has mixtapes that a lot of people cannot name 5 songs off of.

Yeah but they're not as significant to his discography as the albums are. Most people don't even know Kanye has mixtapes. It doesn't matter what artists market music as, it matters how the culture engages with the music

So lemme get this straight, Kendrick’s discography gets negatively impacted because “people do not know five songs off of OD”
Kanye releases mixtapes that people can’t name a single song off of but this does not impact his discography because they “aren’t as significant as his albums are”
How does this make sense?

You're approaching the quality of a discography as if it were numerical. As if each piece of it is some equal part of the whole, as if it is a society ran by people in which every single person has an equal vote and voice
What makes music great is resonance. What is great is to be appreciated, to appeal to cultural sensibilities to the point where you shift the paradigm forward. If an artist made 20 albums and 1 of them literally defined music for 20 years after, but another artist made 5 albums and they were all just okay and no one talked about them again after the years they dropped, then the first artist would have the better discography
There's 10 year olds today that that Eminem is GREAT like actually f***ing amazing and spinning his oldest s*** from 15 years before they were born!! Do y'all think NF or Joyner Lucas are gonna be looked at like that? No, because even if you like these niggas or not one is great and one isn't regardless of if Eminem drops 10 more ass albums
