The old heads undermined themselves when they complained about new rappers wearing skinny jeans, dyeing their hair and other superficial BS. Not saying it would have been different if they stuck to real criticisms but they were never gatekeeping in good faith.
They were right about the overall culture shift and to be specific about where that energy was aimed, wayne whole skater / rockstar s*** definitely correlated with his musical approach. They werent wrong for being apprehensive to that whole aesthetic and energy because That whole swag turned into uzi carti thug lil b etc
No it wouldnt have
Kanye and Wayne is how we got here and they both have plenty of recorded freestyles on their way up lol “i dont have time for w-w-w-willie da squid” “live from the, from the …. Gotcha”
I was just watching a radio interview wit Ye and GLC and cosmic kev and was surprised at how eager Ye was to spit
Literally things work the opposite of what yall be saying lol uzi carti yachty cant “freestyle” (rap a hard verse over a traditional / random beat live obv not actually coming up with it off top) and its a symptom of why they cant fundamentally carry rap lol
Also there was plenty of freestyling in the 2010s as well lol idk what dude talking about
It wasnt until the middle of the decade with "soundcloud" rappers where it fell apart and became disrespecting minus Carti and Travis
Kendrick + TDE, Action Bronson, Mac Miller, Rocky + ASAP Mob, Joey Badass + Pro Era, Big Krit, YG, Meek Mill, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Pusha T, Migos, Gucci Mane, Future, Wale, Tyler + Odd Future, Chance the Rapper etc. were all freestyling in AND outside of radio stations.
But anyways, 2018 was Raps final "true" year imo.
