This nigga drake homophobic on the low lmao

I knew when he called weeknd a ponk and a sissy lol and called cash wicked for being gay lol

Homophobia has been part of Hip-Hop since the beginning

Not saying that it’s right, but just acknowledge that Drake is far and away from the only rapper who says stuff like this

Even a conscious rapper like Common has lyrics like the bar on Doonit

    J. Cole was using the F slur on the Born Sinner intro

Youngboy called Lil Yachty the f slur in 2023
It’s just a part of rap culture and urban culture.

and tbh the Wicked line in the song was more so a reference to Future, not Cash

Drake is the male version of SZA where its lowkey embarrassing listening to their music cause they come across as an insecure loser in so many songs but the music is great so I still listen and sing along, I never treat any rapper as a role model regardless and I expect all of them to do something corny at one point or another, they're only human

I find this perspective interesting because we listen to people who rap about doing actual vile s*** with no regard but people let some mild s*** like this bother them. Not speaking on you specifically because you’re far from the only one that feels this way. Just kind of funny what we give a pass to based on who we like

I have a few thoughts on this

My post was very matter of fact, it wasn’t meant to be harsh criticism but rather just shows my interpretation of Drake and SZA’s lyrics (insecure), if I listen to more violent or aggressive hip hop (I tend not to…) then I would do the same if a question about what it is came up

I think in 2025 a lot of people think of “art”/music/movies as a morality contest and you have to agree 100% with what the person you like represents and says (connection to stan culture), I’m a disciple of Todd Solondz movies so I like to be challenged, and with music especially I can enjoy something in the moment without agreeing with its sentiment 100% and if probed I’ll acknowledge that it’s incorrect or immoral but regardless keep listening if it has the ability to make me feel something

I’ve sang along to a lot of stupid lyrics and I don’t say it earnestly believing it to be true but I don’t say it ironically either, I’m mainly just living in the moment and taking in how it makes me feel as opposed to dissecting it, even if I disagree with the words Drake and SZA use I feel the emotions and feelings of it are true and thus the words don’t matter so much

So in a discussion I may be more blunt and matter of fact but it doesn’t take away from the moment when I’m in the moment, I’m not gonna lie to someone if they ask me if a Drake song makes him sound insecure but I’ll still sing along to every word

Yeah bro I wasn’t trying to come at you or be defensive at all so hopefully you didn’t take it that way you’ve always been a real nuanced poster

You’re completely right though and I’ve shared some of the same perspectives. I think it even goes beyond art as it’s just really the status quo these days. Everything is less of an opinion in a vacuum but treated like an ideology of the person which is honestly exhausting to keep up with. Taking it back to music specifically it’s interesting to see people twist and contort opinions because they feel obligated to stay aligned with their basis. Kendrick vs Drake was just the perfect storm of two artists that on the surface represent two completely different styles, perspectives, ideologies etc. It’s put all of this in hyperdrive especially when you factor in social media perfectly aligning with a bigger push for monetization for engagement. There are so many layers that can be unpacked but at the end of the day I’m sad that we can’t just enjoy things for what they are without being tied to it

I think Kendrick “won” the beef but overall he didn’t come across very well, they both lied repeatedly and it was a blatant mudslinging contest, at different points I sang along to songs from both sides but I’m under no illusions about the reality of what was being said

I think a pertinent example of it is like the post above on this page says, hip hop is homophobic and always has been, I’ve sang along to many homophobic lyrics over the years but I’m not homophobic, I grew up listening and the language and sound of hip hop resonates heavily with me spiritually and physically beyond just words so I don’t take it so strongly to heart, in saying that I think education is vitally important and I want rappers to be better educated but I don’t need them to lie and pander for something they don’t understand yet

I think if you view hip hop or “art” overall as strictly a moral contest or a contest for who can make the most money or have the biggest ego or be the smartest then I understand protesting an artist and not listening so they don’t make money, I want all rappers to be not homophobic in their songs because they educated themselves and it’s what they know to be true not because a publicist told them to not f*** their money up

It’s a different example to Drake/SZA but speaks to the same point about how music has the ability to work on our bodies like medicine, to deny it goes against natural instincts, I want everyone to be happy and educated and free
