I guess I should’ve explained a little more, but I mean I’d like to see him take some inspiration from more contemporary type R&B tracks like he did on Fire & Desire for example

First and foremost, Drake makes music that highlights non-existent problems of a mid 20's multi-platinum selling pop artist.

Nowhere is this more evident than on this new release that everyone is, for reasons unknown, already hyping up to be the album of the year. I don't dismiss successful artists dealing with issues and problems, but the fact that Drake's main problem seems to be finding a girl to "trust," "fuck," "smoke with," and "ride out with", makes me think that he has no real problems at all.

When he is not sounding like he is in the booth reading his lyrics off of his cellphone, Drake is crooning auto-tuned vocals that usually deal with women who have escaped him during the melancholy, d***-induced evenings in Miami lounges. The flow is always the same, the pretense is the same, social commentary is always limited to him trying to justify having money and dismiss the obvious teenage sitcom days that gave him his showbiz start. Drake even manages to sing in auto-tune over a track titled "Wu-tang Forever." He also manages to says "nigga" about 50 times within the first two cuts of the album.

The production is typical of contemporary hip-hop/R&B records and contains lots of layered pads and synths which aim to create a stripped down and atmospheric sound. In the end everything sounds very generic and equal to what you may hear on any Top 40 station. The only stand-out is the Majid Jordan produced "Hold On We're Going Home." The latter is the gem in a basket full of s***.

In the end, this is an album for kids. The early teen to late teen crowd may call this a masterpiece, but traces of that are not evident on this record. However, when you are young and easily intrigued by watered down lyrics and references to d****, nightlife, f***ing women, and having trust issues, then you tend to drift towards this type of music. Rap music is rap music and I am not a hypocrite, but I am quick to call bullshit when I hear bullshit, and that's exactly what the new Drake album is.

Gets 1 star for the Majid Jordan record and first verse of "From Time."

P.S. I remember when they made fun of Slug for rapping about women too much. :smh:
