Still too early to stack up against the rest of his albums imma live with the album a bit before I start doing any rankings
As for the album I’m really enjoying it, contrary to popular narratives I feel like there’s a good balance of Drake experimenting with song structures (N 2 Deep), production (first half of Champagne Poetry) and revisiting classic vibes like NWTS to keep me engaged throughout despite the length.
I said it earlier in this thread but this the most Drake album as he’s leaning into all the Drakeisms and turning it up 10x so if you’re not a Drake fan this won’t do anything for you.
he don’t have that many cringe lines that people can make fun of on this one besides lesbian line.
When Scorpion first came out I knew deep down that it was just aight. This record though, people are really sleeping. They’ll change up in time. It’s a grower
The difference in Scorpion and CLB is the amount 40 is involved
crazy bc both albums were nothing great. poor 40 man wish he was healthier
ye stan so dont have too much of a dog in this fight but I think him leaking the Ye song took all the attention of clb and shifted it back to donda. just my opinion, poor move to make
Any way to gauge this? Just the eye test on KTT?

based on twitter (kanye / andre 3000 were trending yday), the fact that all of the Akademiks and rap ig comments were talking about how drake dropped the best song of the week (joking because he dropped the kanye song), even shifting discussion here way away from clb and the new songs he premiered on the radio, stuff like that.

I'll never understand people's dislike for Scorpion
Side A is flawless
Man I’m pretty over the comparisons between these two albums. Music isn’t competition in my opinion. It’s art, it’s subjective. There is no better. It’s really stupid to compare it because they are just completely different things

Tbh I feel like Ye stans are a very vocal bunch no offense. I think while obviously there was some attention deferred to LOTP there’s still a heavy amount of people that are enjoying CLB. Just want them to both move on at this point

Side A is flawless
I agree, side A is incredible. I still think it’s a good album compared to most of what we get from other rappers. Maybe I should have said for Drake standards it was just aight to me
This is better than B side of Scorpion but A side way better than most of CLB tracks
Pipe Down best track by far
This one of Drake’s worst albums
People saying grower…. If I gotta brainwash myself to like it maybe it isn’t that good
I like More Life more than CLB tbh
Scorpion might be the only album it’s beating. Maybe even Views. I still have hard time listening to it from front to back. Thank god for playlists
what is everyone's top 5 on this?
Imy2
Fair trade
Race my mind
TSU
Love all/way 2 sexy
everything else wrong
Champagne Poetry is such a luxe track, it just sounds lavish, clean and smooth. The first half is dreamy & lovely like you’re floating a foot off the ground with cupids on hovering over each shoulder. Drizzy gently flexing off with the gorgeous sample plucking away is beautiful.
The second half reminds me of a calmer Diplomatic Immunity, it just has traces of that mob boss vibe due to the sample, something you’d hear in a Scorsese montage. Then as the half progresses, you hear a synth slowly trimming in before realizing Drizzy isn’t calm anymore, the demeanour in his voice has completely changed to a hungry - almost angry underdog. Right as it reaches its climax, the cinematic sound design warps itself and we’re back at the opening chords and sample with minor variations as the track cools itself off.
I personally believe it’s his most artistic track since Tuscan Leather and such a fitting intro for an album titled “Certified Lover Boy”.
I can go on and on but I think what makes this track (& album) so different is that we are getting Drake at the true pinnacle, the Mount Everest of an industry and he’s at a level where no other rapper has gone before. The leverage he has, the influence & power over a game and country - Certified is a look into a lifestyle I doubt we’ll ever get to explore through another artist.

Maybe your taste is bad who knows
Or Maybe you gotta have to listen on an album more than once before having a final opinion bout it, doesn't have nothing to do with brainwashing
