I’m not implying Drake doesn’t have creative freedom to do as he chooses. I’m sure he does. And I’m sure the sound of all of his albums are driven by his ideas.

Ijs if you compare the era of TC, NWTS, and IYRTITL with the era of Views, More Life, and Scorpion it’s clear that the Drake of the former era was more concerned with crafting a cohesive body of work while the latter was concerned about broadening his reach and appealing to different audiences. I think both eras were necessary for his legacy but the former obviously produced the better albums which is the most important thing for me personally as a fan.

The first era appealed to album listeners and the second appealed to single streamers from various markets (ie designed so everyone in each market likes at least one song from those albums which ends up boosting the streaming numbers more).

I understand that the way people consume music is changing and as a result the album format has less meaning than it did 10 years ago but I’m hoping CLB is for album enthusiasts and that he’s found a zone creatively where he has a vision for a great album again.
