    Saba - Few Good Things

This was cool, saba don't miss ever imo but I didn't know what to expect. Much more uplifting then I thought.

I really like the breezy sound of this record. He sounds contented, like this is the soundtrack of walking around the burbs you just moved into with your own name and resources. The substance is slightly lacking lyrically for me, not that he ain't saying nothing, but some songs sound like empire/Tyler perry music. bros flows make up for that. It's the features here that missed pretty much every time for me. But saba himself did not lack at any point, so I wish he had no feats on here.

No ID do a lot of this production? My fav songs here remind me a lot of cocaine 80s production wise, like fearmonger. probably my fav track on here.

The standouts for me were the songs that sound like West coast tinged outkast. The first 5 track run especially. Really sets the tone. Imo the middle could've been taken off. Tracks 6-8 are kinda mid imo. But then it picks up again towards the end of the tracklist.

Overall this is like a happy version of damn, or what I thought the big day would sound like lol.

    7/10, good listen. Thanks man

this is one of my favorite first listens in recent memory. the project flows incredibly well. each song is so layered and elicits such a unique vibe. it’s really hard to pick a favorite, but Delusional is a standout. thank you so much for recommending this

When it comes to Eno I always immediately think "guy who makes atmospheric instrumental music" so hearing that he not only occasionally sings but also does pop and rock songs as well I was surprised

Now going into this the first two tracks I absolutely love the bass playing. Especially on the first track over that robotic ass sound that guitar? is making. What follows afterwards is the first track where he full on sings over a poppish melody. His singing doesn't always rlly do it for me if im honest, not that it's bad but it's just ok. At times I'm reminded a bit of Kevin Parker from Tame Impala (but I like his voice more) However out of all the singing tracks that's on this record I liked Golden Hours and Everything merges with the nights the most. The former reminds me a lot of something MGMT would do on Little Dark Age.

As for the instrumental songs on this, some were quite forgettable to me as they just sound like mini interludes or they don't rlly build to much. Like idk why the title track is one of the most streamed songs on this when it's a whole nothing going on Tho when they DO HIT becalmed and Zawinul/Lava are pure ZEN shi

The two last tracks are an interesting transition from one another. U have a joyful "we've come this far" song on when the night comes and then the album closes on some eerie dark shi. Which is given the title track. Overall fun listen 7/10.

    Fav tracks:
    Sky Saw
    Over Fire Island
    Golden Hours
    Becalmed
    Zawinul/Lava
    Everything merges with the night

I’m glad you enjoyed it tame impala is a funny comparison. I always think of yung lean because he also does not have the most flattering voice but it just works. I think a lot of the ambient tracks on here work really well due to that being his bread and butter.

well I might as well give my review now since I have time and I'll be busy later

@Tuneout (album was Talk Talk - Laughing Stock)

I've def heard this album before but honestly this might as well be a fresh listen because I don't really remember much from it. My go-to Talk Talk project is Spirit of Eden (Wealth is one of my favorite songs ever lol).

It's insane to me how ahead of its time this and Spirit of Eden sound. Even though I wouldn't classify this as jazz, I love the incorporation of little ideas from the genre (and I love jazz too so all the better). I think they are one of those bands that sound like nothing else, they really pioneered and perfected a sound. "Ascension Day" is for sure the highlight for me it has kind of a noise rock thing going on during the louder parts with its guitar tone but also they combine it with their jazzy influences. I also love how they use the Hammond organ it's one of my favorite instruments ever lol gets me hooked instantly "After the Flood" was another peak for me and once again it was the use of noisy textures that elevates it, at 4:01 apparently it's a variophon? never heard of that instrument but it adds a lot of character. All in all I love just how atmospheric, slow and subtly chaotic this project is

    Incredible album RIP Mark Hollis
