All killer no filler. BANGERS throughout .Dont speak fluent espanol so I listen to the music like I would listen to any glossolalia carried project . The glossolalia thing is what makes this click. The voice is doing more than lyrics. Half the time it feels like rhythm, slang, percussion, or just a signal to move. The words matter, but they are not the only place the meaning is happening. That is why it still hits even when the language is not fully available. A chant can make sense physically before it makes sense literally and a repeated phrase starts to feel like a command. The delivery tells you when something is funny, sexual (OD h**** album if you can’t tell by the cover), aggressive, or just meant to turn the room up. It is not rough or random either it sounds locked into its own rules The drums are direct because they do not need to prove anything. The voices already carry the chaos, the jokes, the pressure, the movement. Everything is built around impact. That is the part that feels closer to glossolalia than just espanol music It is not about words becoming meaningless. It is about sound carrying meaning before translation catches up. This is going into the rotation for sure, as I’ve been trying to listen to shangaan electro (that’s not this project at all though)
im really glad you loved it! i randomly stumbled across it around the time it came out by snooping the new releases on apple music and i just listened to it out of curiosity
added every song to library on first listen just like you haha, amazing discovery
I’ll be sure to check out that collab. Nothing sticks out may be the wrong wording but it’s def a safe album that I could let run in the garage/house all day and not get bored.
I'm reading it as more you saying it's more on the pop side, Which it is. brazillian music, and specifically Milton from this time onward until after clube de esquina, was pretty much copying the beatles and adding a brazillian touch to it. The later his career spanned the more he expanded his musical language.
What sticks out to me about Milton is his sense of melody and his voice. It's so powerful especially during his later years. It sounds almost omniscient in a way. He has an ancient quality to his voice imo.
His work like like geraes (iirc) and his albums from that period demand more attention, if that's what you seek

That makes more sense. I just wanted to clarify I wasn’t saying he was bad or note noteworthy. He does have a beautiful voice. I am tapping into Lo Borges at work rn

Lo borges got his own set of classics.
And in my opinion, his songs on clube de esquina are some of the best on the album. And some the best pop songs I've ever heard. the Paul McCartney of 60s brasilia
Mind you, bro was a teenager when he was under Miltons tutelage. Which makes his work on there even more impressive

ANTENNA is a 2023 album by Japanese band Mrs. GREEN APPLE that I’d say fits the J-Rock/J-pop label pretty snugly. J-pop is a pretty broad term though so I guess rock with orchestral and light electronic/industrial moments too.

Ngl listening to this album was a bit of a self-placed ordeal to me because I figured I should try to look up the translated lyrics so that I am able to understand the entirety of the song which was working for like 8-9 of the songs on this album that had official music videos (or live sessions) with captioned English lyrics but some I ended up just playing the song off Spotify and following along on a lyric website.
Now, I don’t do this for every song in a foreign language I want to hear or even relisten to, (I’m not that neurodivergent) because obviously there’s much more to music than the language the lyrics are in, hell there are even Japanese albums I love that idk a word they said but once in a while if i wanna review/give an album in a foreign language a first proper listen…I don’t see why not.
Anyways, as far as the album goes, well, I’m not usually a J-Rock guy, I like citypop and some J-pop, but I ended up liking this album a lot!
I think this album made me appreciate the sincerity in good messaging that a lot of popular Japanese music tends to have. On ANTENNA, I’m hearing pretty typical stuff like maintaining a positive mindset in the face of hardship, focusing on yourself to attract others romantically, but it’s done in a way that for the most part feels realistic and personal, and less like a PSA ad that you would see on basic cable TV. Some lyrics that stuck with me (in translation) were “If I were born again I’d be myself again” on Que Sera Sera or “let’s enjoy our disappointing lives” on MAGIC.
There’s also some pretty good production that help the delivery of these messages like on Que Sera Sera which uses a harpsichord at the beginning and then blends its orchestral moments pretty well throughout the song. Alongside with the messaging about embracing the worst in life alongside the good, like “it’s okay to cry or scream about the way life is going, as long as you keep moving forward”, I’d say this is the closest to a true anthem on this album.
norn is another moment worth highlighting because it’s got a folk vibe with the acoustic guitars, banjo plucks, and it’s in…Swedish. With its lyrics about appreciating people while they’re still around and being reminded of time passing, it’s sweet, and made me realize I need to visit my grandma more often.
There are some songs that do come off as rehashes though. Lyrically Doodle is hitting the same themes as stuff like Que Sera Sera only Doodle is just more conventionally produced J-rock-wise. That and, between the production/vocal delivery, it does feel like they’re “holding back” like a more reserved/restrained version of themselves. It’s like they dialed back their ambition for the other tracks.
Some questionable production choices too. Blizzard has a good falsetto vocal performance on the chorus by their lead singer Ohmori and but as far as the EDM instrumental goes, it sounds pretty generic. I swear I hear FL Studio presets in that percussion.
Even on the more anthemic cuts like MAGIC, the sentiments of the song are decent but undercut by the slight sterility of the production with its “HEY!” shouts and more pop-rock production reminds me of like…1Direction or just any song you would hear on the radio in the early 2010s. You’re listening to Radio Disney!
Overall, more tracks that I liked than less. Could see myself coming back to a couple of these songs.

This is prolly my first time ever listening to a full arabic album and to top it off it's a really old one as well (1975 my guy
) I learned my fair share of arabic words from the goat habibi Drake himself so I was ready to say the least.
Now for the album, the album opener self titled track is a such beauty of a sing. It really gives me that feeling of a song intro for a spanish soap opera from back in the days very nostalgic so I wouldn't be surprised if they had used this for the same purpose. The chorus is so nice with the strings and she rlly be belting
يا سنيني إللي رحتي إرجعيلي
إرجعيلي شي مرة إرجعيلي
I think it's prolly my fav song on this ngl. IIRC u mentioned one of the highlights of this album is that it's very strings heavy and I've taken notice of it quite a bunch throughout this whole thing since practically every track uses it
Following the opener the next two tracks were quite forgettable both singing and melodys.
At Waady Elak I get a bit of an interest again cause i like how she the strings copy her voice if that makes sense which give it a lil oomph. Ala Baly Ya Akmar is another banger cause I can imagine myself being in a desert city like Agrabah or some shi. Sana an Sana follows this same logic for me. I think it's the lil drums going on in the back constantly with the flute?
The last highlight for me was Kanou Ya Habiby simply cause in the bridge (?) Towards the end it reminds me of a theme in Tetris
and it has a fun dancey vibe to it.
So overall I enjoyed 5/9 and I didn't always like the singing as sometimes it just sounded like she lowkey crying or somn
maybe it's how the language sounds at times. I'm rlly curious how u even came across this album for someone who claims to not listen to much foreign music
Small tidbit I liked how on the ending on some songs there were clapping added to them from an audience to give it a live album feeling? Not sure if it was intentional or not.

This is a fav of mine by big C. If you’ve heard it before let me know.
This s*** is beautiful man. It's crazy how similar miltons and Charles vocal styles are lol. He gives me almost the exact same feeling as Miltons voice. Powerful and almost primordial. I really loved Isabelle. I couldn't understand anything, but somehow I still understood everything. Incredible performance.
Love this album, the instrumentation is great too. I knew I'd fw it based on the cover.

Crazy good review dawg im not sure mine can match it but i gotchu tomorrow, listenedd to it once through this week while iwas in the gym but ima give it another more attentive listen thru. Natanael Cano - Nata Montana

This week was some corridos
Im admitedly not the biggest fan of the genre but always open to listen, i fw Fuerza Regida. This was the first Natanael Cano album i ever listened so i was curious how it was gonna go.
My thoughts on the album is that it was good
i do think it suffers from almost every corridos project i ever listened is that it ends getting a little samey and some songs blend into each other but that doesnt mean there was some good highlights.
Album was pretty stacked feature wise, got a lot of known names in the scene. The feats i liked more where from Chino Pacas and Junior H.
Some songs i liked were Mi Bello angel and AMG. My favorite song here was En Corto. That one been on repeat since i listened days ago

Duuude Isabelle is the one lol that’s the hit amongst my friends and I, glad you enjoyed

Idk if I can type up a whole in depth review but that Joao Gilberto album was gas. The guitar and vocals hit in such a delicate way. The guitar strums in so many different ways, chords all over. It softly lifts you up out of your seat like a sea breeze by the beach. Joao’s voice is somehow up beat and calming at the same time. I love Bossa Nova, definitely one of my new favorite albums, and thanks for sending that FLAC link

was there any reference to scarface throughout this whole thing?
did u even watch scarface in ur life
I won’t lie… I’ve struggled to come up with much to say about this one
Let me start off by saying it’s not bad and I think Angèle is talented, but I wasn’t able to connect with this one too heavily. The language barrier definitely shares a large part of the blame but it’s sonically pretty on-par with a lot of the other pop music I’ve heard these past few years. I feel like I didn’t get a good sense of what this artist was about, especially when I’m relying pretty heavily on the production to tell me.
It wasn’t a bad experience though
I found pretty much every song to be catchy and well-made. The highlight songs for me were Flou and Victime des réseaux.
I’m feeling a 5-6/10 for this one. I can see Flou being kept in rotation for the rest of this week.
