Since rap has been slow this year I’ve been revisiting classics a lot. I love all the sub genres of rap, trap etc but it’s nothing like good old fashioned hip-hop

This album is hip-hop in its rawest form imo. No commercial singles, no gimmicks, no genre blending or major features, no over exaggerated street s***, just classic production from the boom bap goat DJ Premier and pure, potent, substantive, and masterful rhymes by Guru (his best performance on a gang Starr album imo)

I can listen to You Know My Steez on repeat all day

That’s a great pick op because not only does it encompass the boom bap sound but it does it in a very timeless way, I heard Above The Clouds played outside this summer and it sounded great

Lot of the expected picks, but from this decade alone I believe this is the most pure hip hop album to release. Not even the best song here

The pure b boy essence. Mos Def as an artist captures the essence best for me, along with KRS One.

Mos is the perfect balance of consciousness and fun. The 5th element is so important

Ready to Die is my favorite hip hop album of all time! Bro when I heard this s*** for the first time @ 16 in 2008, I swear my life turned upside. Became a stan of hip hop overnight. Can’t believe how good this album is. Ty for sharing
