What are some albums that were never given a fair chance due to the climate surrounding the artists?
Jesus Is King - Very good album. People never gave this a chance due to Ye's hard shift in content + having already listened to Yhandi songs. If you went into this album with a clear ear, the music is quality. The God themes also turned a lot of people off. How is an album with Selah, Follow God, Closed On Sunday, On God, Water, God Is, Hands On, Use This Gospel not considered good?
Man Of The Woods - JT was mad hated when this dropped. This doesn't take away from the quality of the music. Higher Higher, Montane, Breeze Off The Pond, Supplies, Wave, Livin Off The Land, Midnight Summer Jam, Sauce, etc. are all quality. People immediately wrote this album off because of its theme.
Everything Is Love - Jay and Bey were getting overexposed at this time + Jay was distant from Ye which led to the reception of this album. Songs like Summer, Boss, 713, Friends, Black Effect are all solid.
EIL - It’s pretty bad dude
For a Beyoncé and Jay Z album
They didn’t need to make this - why phone it in
Granted, I don't think JIK is a bad album like many on here say.
But I do think it's a mid album that sounds like Kanye going through the motions vocally and musically.
Ironically, the Yandhi versions of the songs as well as Jesus Is Born hurts the album more because you realize how much Kanye scaled back on certain songs and how the limited feature of the Sunday Service Choir outside the intro made the album less uniquely gospel than it was presented.

Agree with JIK. I replay this often
Coloring Book I’d add. I know it wasn’t severely panned but it’s one of the strongest rap albums of which we year it came it. It’s 9/10
I would say Before I Self Destruct by 50 Cent.
Album was a step above Curtis and had that mixtape 50 sound on lock in the form of an album. He sounded hungry again and had some good concept songs. Baby By Me was(and apparently still is) a hit too.
But people moved on from 50 at that point since the sales battle, assuming he retired. And people saw him as "washed" and were rooting for Ross in that beef in 09. So, BISD wasn't given a fair shot.

Why mention Coloring Book tho? It was given a very fair chance and received well

because I lived the CB release date thread and weeks that followed
Selah, On God, God Is is Ye going through the motions?
Did you hear the OG Yandhi version tho?

Yeah and it was dope as well.
That doesn't take anything away from the finished version tho.

But that’s just KTT lmfao. Overall the album was very well received, broke numerous firsts in streaming for a mixtape, won best rap album Grammy (first mixtape ever), had a hit song on it that also won a Grammy and the critics loved it, average rating of 8-9/10 lol
If you're citing jik as the first album example in a thread with this title im not going to be able to take you seriously
MOTW is one of the worst albums I've ever been disgraced with the displeasure of listening to. Pure audio terrorism in every conceivable way.
Kissland.
That's his best album it just didn't sell a lot compared to his pop s*** and a vocal minority who didn't appreciate it at the time

ya. i'm not a huge chance fan, but that album was huge when it came out (and has an 89 on metacritic)... that one album launched chance to superstar status.
maybe TTU is thinking of Chance's next album..
