Same problem. Half album was dope, the rest was kinda mid.

    I prefer LAX tho.

Tell me you played it after 2015

I definitely played The Chronic and 2001 and not this

I do I still play it consistently. We had a convo on here how it was one of the most underrated albums of the past few years. People didnt show it too much love because they thought it was just a soundtrack tot he movie when it was really its own separate thing. Album was awesome its what first got me into paak.

Anderson Paak was the highlight of the album for me too, but it ended up being not very memorable

I guess I expected it to be like 2001 and it wasn’t, no hits and the beats were good but not iconic, just didn’t give me that classic Dr. Dre feel I used to get

And also don’t forget it came out instead of Detox and Dre said it will be his last album

And people were hype as f*** to Detox this s*** was a decade in the making but now nobody talk about Compton

  • Sep 16, 2020

Also funny how he tried to put some Aftermath rappers on but only Anderson Paak made it

He had rappers on multiple tracks just to end up like Hittman again

I get that and I agree that no one talks about it aside from a small cult, but I think a lot of that was due to marketing and how it was packaged.

I wasn't expecting detox because who really expected anything like detox after it had been over 15 years. Dre was clearly in a different place and I think quality wise this album was top notch. Is it some iconic album? no, but by no means was I left disappointed. S*** I think what we got is probably more conceptually sound than detox would've been.

  • Nigga really redid Bone Thugs For The Love Of Money....and it sucked.

All those Aftermath artists he featured sucked and havent been heard from since.

Kush is better then anything on Compton.

I’m being nice because I know it’s hard to release a comeback album so late into your career and still have it be good

I feel like Detox would’ve been disappointing no matter what

This is why Lauryn Hill and Andre 3000 didn’t release an album

    D’Angelo pulled it off tho

I think Detox could've been amazing.

Dre doesnt know what sounds good anymore honestly. Compton proves that.

  • Sep 16, 2020

D’Angelo did the impossible no one even expected him to follow up Voodoo and he did it 15 years later and it was incredible

Dre didn’t even produce most of Compton (which is the whole point right?)

Detox should’ve come out mid 2000s with Eminem, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, The Game etc would’ve been great

He actually produced during that time and he actually started working on it at the time

I feel like the more it postponed it the more it felt like a mess and he just decided to make a new album for the movie but he was way off his prime
