Of course, feels like you’re arguing something I didn’t really say. The thread didn’t imply to me that the artists have to hate each other. Andre wasn’t fw big boi during that period though it would seem not saying they had a serious problem but they literally wasn’t fw each other just on a physical level they wasn’t around each other. Thought that applied, cause the Fleetwood Mac situation has nuance too and isn’t people who outright hated each other lol

I think even if we’re just talking about Idlewild and the double album, I don’t think that automatically meant they didn’t like each other during that period or Andre didn’t like Big Boi just because Andre shifted the type of music he was doing during that time period.

They easily could’ve split up after Stankonia and released that double album as 2 solos but they both chose to release it together under the group name and Big Boi rapped on The Love Below and Andre produced on Speakerboxx. If they REALLY weren’t f***ing with each other, why would they do all of that?

whole lotta assumptions in this post based on how you personally view their statements. not saying you foul for this but this isnt any more valid than people saying they cool, even less so since it contradicts what they've said

Not mad at you for this, that’s reasonable. I just personally feel like there’s more to it, it is kind of an assumption but Andre’s words and actions is what led me to these assumptions. Not tryna be foul with it tho

Again I ain’t saying they straight up hated each other but there was obvious distance and to me that constitutes a mention in a thread like this, even if it’s not semantically a 1:1 match to thread title

But also it’s more than Andre’s musical taste changing bro and I assume you know this

It’s also about lifestyle. Andre stopped touring with Big Boi not only taking different buses for Stankonia but then declining to tour for the double album. and Andre just said in an interview recently that he still hates being around rappers or in the studio with rappers or people who smoke. It’s not the music but the lifestyle, Andre straight up decided he wanted to hang around Big Boi less. Ain’t that not lowkey not fw someone?

This part is an assumption but it seems like Andre thought he outgrew Big Boi

I feel like the last part points more to Andres social anxiety ramping up in the early 2000s versus him having any sort of negative feelings against Big Boi. Which Is the main factor of why Outkast stopped.

I feel like if there was actual negativity between the 2, it would’ve been documented.

I take some of Andre’s comments like “I can’t be around n**** smoking all day” as something adjacent to negativity. Again, at least enough for this thread, not saying actual bad blood. It doesn’t take much reading between the lines to see that when andre began to view himself as above hip hop he also separated himself from Big Boi and probably didn’t think he was on his level as an artist or person. He views rap as “just something we did as a kid, I can’t still be in the playground” so by proxy, it would seem that he views Big Boi as less mature than himself since he still raps and smokes.

That’s the cleaned version tbh and if it makes you feel good I’m not gonna hold you, it’s for the fans I guess. I wouldn’t use the terms “bad blood” but there was obviously some strain on their dynamic and relationship. Big Boi was always down but Andre lost interest and wanted to ride on a different bus and separated himself socially. That’s why the last two albums weren’t made together and they probably barely spent time in this period. Even though Big Boi would never say it publicly because he’s a class act, I’m sure he felt disappointed that he was showing Andre The Way You Move and Bowtie and couldn’t get a verse from him. and he implied in an interview that Andre’s changes were hard for him to understand even though he obviously rode it out. Safe to say there’s a little more there than just the “me and dre still good outkast forever” which was always his public stance, credit to him.

Imagine being in the biggest rap group ever and then your partner who is the bigger star bails on you completely. The examples in OP wasn’t some crazy beef so I felt like nuanced tension and distance between artists that are separating like that still applies. Rumors was made by separating couples, Speakerboxx and Idlewild were made by separating friends. And you can go ahead and tell me Dre goes and sees big boi’s son but from Andre’s own interviews he basically says he can’t hang out with any rappers or anyone who smokes so I doubt they see each other much. They want us to think they’re cooler than they are. Me and you probably speak more than Dre and Big Boi

3stacks just became heavily disinterested and uninspired, especially with being a celebrity. He already spoke openly about how much he regretted keeping Big Boi from all the money they could have made but Big Boi has always been supportive of his brother and stood by “whenever he’s ready, I’m ready. He figuring himself out and that’s my brother for life”

That’s dope and maybe I should just take that at face value and respect it. But it’s too many other comments from Andre that make it seem like it’s more than that.

If Andre was disinterested in celebrity why did he attempt to make the pivot to be an actor, which would be even harder for someone who has social anxiety I assume? That timeline don’t add up. He got tired of rap and hip hop, not celebrity. At least until 2007 but he wasn’t done with celebrity aspirations in 2000 or 2003 and they still weren’t working together. That anxiety thing just an easy answer I’m sorry. That man ain’t walk away from the spotlight until years after he already walked away from his partner. If he had his whole plan go accordingly then he would’ve become a movie star and transcended Outkast and hip hop altogether, which is clearly what he wanted. He was just desperate to not be seen as a “rapper”

Outkast were two friends and artists who grew apart. They're still friends though.

Much less toxic than what was going on with Fleetwood Mac, who were cheating on each other and having fights in the studio parking lot over what songs were going to make it onto the album.

That’s probably the 2 times they seen each other in a decade lol people say that like it means so much Dre doing the bare minimum with that be fr. That’s not “they’re obviously still very close” level that’s some old friend support level

Big Boi wasn’t happy with Aquemini tracklist but Andre over ruled him lol that last part kinda regular. I get what you’re saying but I didn’t think it needed to be extremely toxic to apply. Artists who are grown apart/separated making a strange disjointed album as Idlewild seems to fit the bill for the thread imo. It’s the rap Let It Be but even more extreme because at least they played the music together. Idlewild is literally an album made by a group who isn’t even speaking to each other during the making of said album, and it shows in the product!

This is just all wrong types of wrong. 3stacks was the immature one Big Boi had a girl (now wife) and daughter early on. Dre was the one riding around doing dumb s*** and even said he looked up to Big Boi and how much smarter he was. Like Dre literally dropped out of high school in 11th grade and Big Boi graduated from the same school with honors
