I’m incredibly curious about this
you watching this at scotiabank imax? i got tickets to it for tuesday
Idk if you can even call it a twist since it's revealed so early. It being intentionally left out of marketing doesn't make it a twist to me
why play the semantics game? so, length of time before introduced determines if something is a twist? your reasoning seems pretty arbitrary
any Eddington fans in here? is this like that where despite its flaws its poignant cultural commentary thats ahead of its time for mainstream audiences ? or is it just too on the nose
Eddington fan. This film, to me, comes across a lot more smug and self-satisfied. More flaws, and making a less interesting point.

Not entirely, but it's a big part of it in my opinion
It happens so early in the movie that if you went into this blindly without watching any trailers or reading any spoilers, there's no chance you would call it a twist because you wouldn't have any idea of what the movie is "supposed to be" going in
I guess my point is that the reveal can't be a twist because it just is what the movie is, and it's made clear very early. Deceptive marketing sure, but I won't call it a twist

I would disagree because the first 20 minutes of the film are valuable real estate and it's subverting your expectations of what the first 20 minutes of this type of film should be. I saw The Drama at an advanced screening before any info or trailers and I felt the same way.
But, it's a boring semantics convo. Call it whatever you want. Words are just things that help us commmunicate ideas.

It was definitely a twist. I’ve never heard of time length in a movie dictating what qualifies as a twist tbh

This > Eddington. They are both on the nose but Eddington was crazy blatant about it. At least this movie did something cool with the structure

imma back track and take back my The Drama comparison cause this is much more of a conventional twist because it's actively concealing things. The Drama is debatable. That one might not be a twist.

Eddington was phenomenal and I loved it more on second watch.
I'd say that and Digger both are politically charged movies that are a bit deceptive with what they are actually satirizing. Eddington isn't about MAGA or BLM or any of that, it's about the data center and how social media is being used to divide us and make us angry
Digger makes it very obvious what the message is in the final 5 minutes, moreso than Eddington ever did. I think it's fantastic and it's necessary to experience it in theaters with no spoilers.
Both films feel on the nose but neither are about what they are on the nose about, so I understand why critics are lower on them but I think both will age like wine.
My favorite parts of the film are when it digs into the sheer apocalyptic hopelessness of our times. I'm a sucker for that, The Cruise monologue captured this really well. If the whole movie was like that we'd be cooking.

I definitely wouldn't have called anything in The Drama a twist since all of its marketing told us that some bombshell event was going to happen
I agree with the second part of your post regardless though. It really doesn't matter what you call it
And like I said that was literally the only thing I liked about this movie anyway lol
SilentDawn is my favorite reviewer on Letterboxd and he thinks this is a masterpiece so that's a win for the pro-Digger camp.

I dunno
I felt like Inarratu wanted to make a Don't Look Up film but didn't have the balls to get called cringe for making a Don't Look Up film so he came up with the twist as a security blanket.

Saw it very late and maybe I expected it to be bad based off initial reviews, but I was more than impressed. I was kinda mad that I let other peoples opinions affect how I walk into a movie and I’ve kinda tried to avoid that since.
One of the best kinds “Covid” movies ever. He got it off so quick

That's the lasting feeling I got from this movie. It didn't have the balls to say anything of substance, so it relied on gimmicks and cheap jokes to make up for it

I don't get it. Is this the Digger rating curve? what is that supposed to tell us?
