I get what he is going for to be clear. I have met Trump voters who are the kinder than Biden voters. I have met ignorance, racism, islamophobia, transphobia on both sides of the party lines.

lol tripping that much over that Garland quotes are the same idiots that are silent when democrats drone strike children. Its easy to think only your opposition is capable of evil when both sides do and allow abhorrent s***.

    "

Garland was also asked about the vagueness of the war’s politics in his film. Civil War imagines a near-future dystopia where the United States has been torn apart under the authoritarian rule of a three-term president (Nick Offerman). The story follows a journalist (Kirsten Dunst) and her colleagues as they make their way across a hostile and divided states of America. Yet the film avoids typical red state/blue state divisions (Texas and California are allies). The conflict’s politics are left almost entirely unexplained leaving the viewer with no more clues about what led up to the battle beyond what’s already been revealed in the trailers (though one of the president’s first actions was to disband the FBI, which seems like a nod to Trump, who has called to “defund” the Bureau).

    "

this is more the worry I had personified though

He does also talk about american exceptionalism in that interview though so I have hope

I got a feeling this is gonna be one of those movies with a pretty good critics score and like a 40% user score on RT

As much as we like to s*** on critics and claim for “paid reviews” there’s been times where audience score gets it wrong. Off the top of my head Uncut Gems is at 52% with audiences

Of course there’s examples of the opposite being true as well

I mean more introspective movies that question society in some way often are mixed critically in some way . Because it’s often words people don’t want to see

I saw both Annihilation and Dune: Part One (from the recent re-release, my first viewing ever of the movie) in an empty theatre.
I think that kind of circumstances elevates the viewing experience a bit

Dune will be nice empty but Garland I like hearing audience reactions. I actually saw Men with my high school spanish teacher on second watch. First watch was alone but I fell asleep because I had been walking all day

Men, I saw that one on streaming, and thinking back on it, I think watching that on the big screen would’ve made me appreciate a bit more cus the horror moments fell flat to me (speaking as someone who’s actually unnerved by horror movies in general lmao).
But you make a good point about the audience’s reactions to Garland’s works. I saw Ex Machina via an unofficial rip stream when it just came out at my local movie theatre, and I enjoyed it so much that I had to go watch it at the theatre (which I’ve never done before). The theatre was packed, surprisingly for a lowkey release. The audience reactions to certain key scenes in Ex Machina added quite a lot to the viewing experience lol

I saw an early test screening of annihilation and we had to sign a waiver cuz niggas was passing out and vomiting at the original ending.

when they close in on Oscar Isaac's eyes (if I recall correctly) in the ending -- it goes into a like a 2 minute trippy hallucinogenic like... visualizer thing that was wrecking people's nervous systems. even got to me a bit. but I'm praying that s*** sees the light of day sometime.

F*** YAL GARLAND IS THE GOAT
