Last thing (off reddit talking bout defamation lawsuits) there’s nothing “bad precedent-setting” about what went down with Alex Jones

The idea behind defamation law is that if someone smears you and ruins your reputation or inflicts emotional suffering on you, they should have to pay for the harm they cause. This has been the basis for civil lawsuits for hundreds of years, going back to 1600s England.

In the US, we value free speech, so we make it really hard to win defamation lawsuits. But not impossible! If someone deliberately lies about you and those lies harm you, then you can sue and get money to compensate you for that harm.

So this isn't just about "conspiracy theories." You can talk about UFOs or Bigfoot all you want. That's not harming anyone. And CNN and Fox are held to the same standard. Anyone who goes on TV and deliberately lies and harms someone's reputation could get sued.

So what happened here is that Alex Jones repeatedly claimed that Sandy Hook was fake and these parents of murdered little children were liars and fraudsters. These parents suffered years of abuse and harassment from unhinged InfoWars fans. Someone pissed on the grave of a murdered child.

That's Alex Jones' business model. He's gotten fabulously wealthy by spreading harmful lies. He is deliberately tormenting innocent people for money. So why should he be allowed to keep those ill-gotten profits?

And then when he got sued, he ignored his legal obligations to turn over documents and he continued to mock the families, the courts, and the entire legal system. He thought he was above the law. But he's not.

@user what were these parents supposed to do? Me and you both from the south you know damn well what niggas would do if motherfuckas PISSED ON YOUR CHILD’S GRAVE.

    C’mon dawg

The thing is (and you do this alot) you speak on s*** you clearly didnt even follow and try to pass it on some devil’s advocate s***.

He was HARRASSING those parents bro, he wasnt getting sued off of just talking conspiracies. If that was the case all of 4chan woulda been taken under during that time.

If any of those parents had the gall to do it they woulda been in the right to putting dude under the ground lol

People were posting links and I never saw where he directly harassed those parents outside of vague “they can’t stop me” tinfoil nigga talk that could just as easily mean the “government” lol

What “left wing conspiracies” lead to making death threats against parents of dead niggas user?

Lets keep the same energy lol

  • Like FOX News as much as we hate them, have a right to exist. And no one can take that away from them.

They also know what to push and what not to push because they know they can be held liable. Apparently thats why Ilhan Omar bout to get her ass booted from congress cause…shawty was wilding (or so they say, i need more context around her)

Closest thing that comes to mind for me is Umar or Rizza Islam types can no longer talk about (or would be smart not to if they’re aware of the Alex Jones s***) things the US gov may have done in the 60’s-80’s regarding black people if they’re now responsible for what their fanbase does upon learning that “information”. If a nigga decides to go scream outside of Ronald Reagan’s descendants or the families of those responsible for the crack epidemic; Civil Rights era murders and tampering; etc. that’s now the responsibility/fault of Umar and Rizza according to yall lol

I’m just now reading it as you asking as something that has already happened. It hasn’t happened and I wasn’t tryna make it a left vs right thing. I’m dead serious about setting the precedent of things such as the above

If Alex didn’t himself do it I don’t see how he’s responsible lol

Again. Umar talks about Reaganomics for years > someone goes and pisses on Reagan’s grave > we cool with Umar getting hit with a $100 defamation suit/settlement? Lol

Y'all will really stop at nothing to give your support to sacks of s*** who have shown throughout their life they don't deserve it.

Y'all offering empathy and sympathy to a man who never once showed either of those to families who were suffering the loss of their children in a shooting. A man who actually created much of that suffering for them.

Y'all something else b. Ya could just let dude deal with his own demons he created, but nah, y'all rather turn it into some goofy ass anti-cancel culture bullshit. It's like y'all just refuse to accept that people have to deal with the repercussions of their own actions.

I mean the man in a tweet earlier in this thread basically said "we're not gonna stop". Meaning that whatever we're doing with public shaming isn't working or isn't that effective if narcs like him just double down and keep going or getting worse.

There's gotta be some other way like personal intervention with people like these.

I haven't even read the rest of thread if people are actually defending him like that, it's pretty inexcusable but it'd be better for the entire world if people like him could be placated somehow. How you do that is the big question

Did Donald Trump radicalize mfs to storm the Capitol?

Arguably. I see where you’re going and remember there was exact language he may have used but I don’t really remember to be completely honest but by the way you’re asking I guess you’re trying to make that equivalent between what he did and what Jones did. Jones has been way more vague than any call to action on a direct date and location the way I believe Trump did but that was a while ago so I don’t remember all that Trump said honestly.

If trump made no direct call to action then you could argue it both ways. Without even getting into what independent actors may have organized whatever on places like Parlor based off Trump losing the election.

This is a horrible parallel dog 😂😂

Umar twitter follows got nighas fooled but he still dont have the reach that prime Alex Jones/Infowars had. That’s one.

Two, we talking bout things that actually happened (crack epidemic, reagan’s policies, things that can be backed up with evidence, from statistics to s*** written in the laws to etc.) to something that legit has no bearings in reality.

Comparing a kid getting pissed on off the pretense of that kid not existing to a president known for laws and policies (that you can legit look up and see btw, not so much the same for a fake child not being real) that through all modern day discussion by scientists, historians, and politicians from both sides alike, actually F***ED the country hard getting pissed on, is insane.

But yeah, that person pissing on a president’s grave would still be liable to be sued/arrested just off sheer desecration of a president’s grave hence why niggas dont do it lol

  • I just don’t get going to bat for Alex Jones.

Yeah, it’s sad he got his texts leaked, but karmic energy is real so I aint gon be posting pages cryin bout the nigga especially during black history month

My solution for all of this has been to just let dude reap what he sowed and continue about your day. It really ain't worth the effort to go at him since he pretty much ruined his life on his own and he's gonna continue to live broke and alone (or with whatever escorts he pays for) And he really ain't deserving of a defense force of people because he has been a terrible person who has actively made the lives of many people worse with blatant lies and factually incorrect conspiracy theories.

We can all just let Alex Jones rot on his own. Let him be a reminder to never become the kinda person he is. It's simple lol

Yeah that's probably fair, I just hope people in the future don't go down that path. I just hate that if he gets popular again it pushes other people down that path, I just don't want another Jan. 6 or something like it.

whether the government officially recognizes that Reaganomics happened is the slippery slope we get into... lol what year do you think that became accepted as “fact” if we even can say that news outlets and governments would co sign that as a fact today? 1985? Would Pac have been able to be hit with a “defamation suit” for speaking on that in 1990? 1995? 2000? Lol

Nigga did they teach you Reaganomics/the direct link between crack epidemic and the Reagan administration in public school in the mid 2000’s? If you have any siblings in school since 2016 do they teach it now? Lol As a black man stop playing dumb that’s something certain types of whites acknowledge to for various reasons that could be a whole nother convo. but it’s far from a widespread acknowledged thing that wouldn’t be up to the subjectivity of a judge if it came down to Umar or Rizza or Farrakhan being accused of defamation for speaking on that.

I went to a (proudly anti-bush) private school up until high school homie

most public school world history classes don't even cover Africa (my AP world History class might as well just been called AP Eurasia) outside of slavery I aint ever talkin bout what niggas learn in public school

The point is at neither my public school education nor your private school education and likely at neither of them nor our high schools since we’ve graduated do they teach you that…so it’s not like that’s a widespread acknowledged fact to where a judge couldn’t be subjective on whether that’s a thing if this same scenario happened revolving around Reagan/his descendants

My ap microeconomics class literally talked about trickle down economics tho?

Now the implications of what it did to the government of course they cant do that as public schools “technically” arent allowed to teach with an agenda.

But you can connect the dots once you learn that + more things in college
