Yesterday, November 7th, marked the 25th anniversary of one of the best rock records of all time. AiC’s self titled album marked the culmination of the bands growth since blowing up onto the scene in the early 90’s.

Part of the phenomenal β€œgrunge” wave out of Seattle, AiC made a name for themselves with their second album β€œDirt”. Album after album saw immense growth in their instrumentation, band dynamic, and their lyricism. Throughout their evolution, however, lead singer Layne Staley was embroiled in severe addiction, bouncing in and out of rehab while trying his hardest to stay sober.

I loved this album the minute I heard it. So powerful yet very fragile, AiC came at a hard time in my life. It helped me put a pin in the way I was feeling; a little self destructive, looking for a way out and having trouble finding it.

This is for you Staley, may you rest in the highest peace.

Absolutely 0 misses on this album.

If you want to get into this album, I’d say listen to their EP released the year before β€œJar of Flies”. Their second best record IMO but not by too much.

Oof anything you mind sharing? This is def a dark album but i never had a bad experience

  • Nov 8, 2020

layne wrote the lyrics on this album rather than spliting with Jerry like on previous albums, so the lyrics here are much more straightforward and dark

  • Nov 8, 2020

Heavy and brooding. Their best album
