It happens so much. So many people wouldn’t have watched Akira if Kanye didn’t make a comment on it and take inspiration from it. They’d just call it trash literally just because it’s anime. Or people who s*** on one piece and someone they like watches it and they change their entire tune. Listening to someone an artist recommending someone who you’ve passed them up for no reason at all or because they had low views you didn’t think it was worth checking out. Is that a sheep mindset? Why complain there’s nothing for you when it’s in your face but you don’t wanna look because of prior expectations? Is all art really just about the most popular liking something and giving that birth of exposure with their blessing?
Do you really think people started liking Akira because of Kanye ?
Read that and went

I first heard about Akira from Lupe not Kanye
I see your point though OP, some people shy away from even trying certain pieces of art because it's not seen as "cool". Like how animation had the stigma of being for kids for so long.
I saw Akira before I even knew who Ye was. I'm sure plenty of people my age and older did as well. Obviously, he made exposed it to an audience of people who wouldn't have known about it otherwise. What's wrong with that?

Many people yes I do. I didn’t say everyone but how popular it got yes.
yes that is how the world has worked since it began and it is how it will work until it stops existing
I'm going to disagree with the Akira comment, even though I get your overall point.
The value of art is based on what the majority thinks of it. But the majority gets their opinions from taste makers.

didn't read OP but yeah people are insecure about their tastes and need validation from someone "cool" a lot of times. sad s***.
