Certain leaks will happen where a ton of personal information is leaked, but rarely sometimes card numbers and payment info, including addresses.
Paypal is nice because it exists as a middleman between you and the retailer. Your payment information is not saved on the website, so if the retailer gets hacked and its information gets leaked + they weren't properly keeping that info hashed, you're SOL.
It's also very nice when dealing with retailers that you might not initially trust, because they're either a new company, somewhat shady, or they don't have a very good reputation in customer service.
I'm not willing to put my card information out there, including retailers I don't necessarily trust, so Paypal is a nice way to pay for things and not have to worry about having to make calls to my bank down the line because the retailer I just bought from ended up scamming me or my s*** got leaked onto 4chan.
