    its like an onion, songs like these are simple because they have few instruments, so basically theyre more simplistic and would fall in the core rings of the onion, where due to the smaller dimensionality if u will, or just the closer proximity in the infinite space of possible sounds, the songs naturally are more similar. The more sounds u have the higher the "dimensionality" is and thus youre placed more on the outer rings of the onion, where the space of potential sounds is much larger and therefore the songs will sound less similar

    i think they also both have similar inspiration for this song, i think this sparse minimalist r&b sound has been done by countless artists before these 2
