I just launched a subscription style music marketing agency a few months ago after working in various roles in tech and music industry and realizing how s***ty all of the alternatives were.
We got a handful of clients last month and we're working on scaling things up right now.
It's not my first business venture, but first new one in awhile and so I wanted to answer any questions y'all have about starting a business, entrepreneurship, or marketing (especially in music field).
Ask away!
How much were the startup costs for launching said bitness?
The marketing agency startup costs ended up being around $1,000. That's pretty cheap but it was largely because we had a lot of experience and could do a good amount of work in-house.
The main costs were setting up website (we just used Squarespace), setting up payment service for subscriptions, setting up an LLC (this was the biggest chunk), and setting aside enough money for offering free trials to artists interested.
We were able to do all of the design, back-end coding, etc in-house.
What is it tho

I’m an aggressively unemployed web dev, give me a job
Start up cost and how you went about funding this endeavor?
So I mentioned startup costs above. Around $1,000 when you include setting up the LLC, basic services like Squarespace and a payment processor, and then offering free trials to interested artists and advertising costs.
I funded it primarily from money that I already had saved but since the business generates profits whenever we do get clients (as opposed to like a free app that is relying primarily on funding for initial period), we have been able to invest whatever profits we make directly back into business
You read any Seth Godin?
I read Purple Cow a few years ago and thought it was a really interesting book. Any suggestions?
What’s the name of the business?

It’s hard to scale service businesses
Definitely harder to scale service businesses. We use a lot of technology behind the scenes to automate tasks that historically need to be manually done. This free's up a lot of time. Additionally, given the nature of our service offering and the fact that we offer our services substantially cheaper than any competitor however we also don't offer much customization, this allows us to effectively have an ability to scale much easier than a traditional service business
