Saw this post on Instagram and honestly the way they framed it really had me like damn there was so much going on for almost every group of hip hop you could want to associate with. A real something for everybody year which is always awesome imo. I think it’s especially prevalent since we’re 15 years removed and all of these artists are still a mainstay of discussion. Full credit to them putting this together but wanted to share because I thought it was dope
grabbed a few slides for the non-ig folks

It's definitely better than 2016
prime Weeknd, Drake, Cole and WTT alone make it probably the best year of the decade. Plus MBDTF dropped late 2010 so it ran all through 2011. Great times
Best year in rap history is likely 1996 or 94', though.

Agree! It’s definitely up there. I see the argument for 2015 but I think it’s more impactful when the year for a lot of acts establishing themselves as the new guard is more of a mover than them dropping great projects as established artists. It’s fun to talk about though love to hear the different perspectives

Social media was still somewhat young back then so it doesn't get the love 2016 gets--which was full prime Twitter/IG/snapchat era. But those who were there know---2011 was special

This is a good point that probably will be lost in the midst of the internet integration. Like around this time I would call it niche but it was at the infant stages of being readily available from your phone. I still remember tweeting through texts lol. Like all of the social media etiquette didn’t exist either at least not like it does today so A LOT of this stuff was organically moving

Not mad at it. Rap was still about rap for the most part and the lots of diverse sounds starting to bubble out of that period. Then there’s the styles, we were fresh off baggy s*** and XXL tees, creating dances and living life
There are probably better years when you stack up the projects released in 2011 compared with others but you could say it was the most exciting because legends and artists in their prime were dropping and the future looked so bright with Section.80, LLA etc
2011 I discovered Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa (i knew who he was in 2010 but still was new), Asap Rocky, Tyler The Creator, Earl & the rest of OF, SGP, Kendrick Lamar, Future, Danny Brown, Ab Soul, Schoolboy Q, Nipsey Hussle, YG, and so many more
2011 will never be beat, other years had better albums 2015 was a super strong year for rap especially but this was the most exciting rap ever was for me
