Whether you’re a fan of the new school or not, you’d have a difficult time refuting the fact that the potentiality of rap as a genre has reached a ceiling over the last 6-7 years. No rap legend is going to come back and save the genre, and most albums by legends as of recent have come and gone.
Instead of being upset about 3k’s direction, it would be in your best interest to identify throughlines between this new album, and what you like most about hip hop from a more feral/implicit POV.
In the 20-minute instrumental track andre dropped 3 years ago, I loved how you could hear traditional rap flow cadences in his playing. I’m sure he actively picks from that creative well when he’s composing/improvising. Let this be a reason to tap into coltrane more etc. its good for “the culture”, its good for hip hop listenership, and its a great opportunity for recalibration, and to discuss how hip hop artists can broaden their musicianship and expand their technical capabilities for creative expression
Y’all act like people crazy for wanting an Andre 3000 solo rap album
Nobody is holding him hostage telling him he can’t do what he wants creatively
It’s people giving him his flowers and wishing for something they’ll think will sound great
It’s more annoying imo how some people itt are acting holier than thou like we can’t speak on our hopes from an artist we all know is capable of legendary things in hiphop
They just did this with Drake lol
Like whatever way an artist already wants to go is always gonna be the right decision to them
Nigga there are none lol
I know its hard to believe but André 3000 is not just the guy who does cool verses here and there for other artists, he was once part of a duo called OutKast and they made 6 fantastic albums together! Isnt that awesome

He dropped a 20 minute instrumental track a few years ago?
no vocals which he’s already told us unless that’s a marketing thing to throw us off
That’s a pivotal difference from the other albums you mentioned lol
Back in the day, a rapper making a singing album was as frowned upon as Andre making a jazz album today
He already made a jazz EP 5 years ago and proved he's capable within the genre, give him a chance

it is much much less intelligent to think I’d even be in this thread without knowing this than it would be to logically assume I mean Andre solo albums aside from TLB but nice quirky sarcastic post I hope you get some likes

Nobody wants a 3K rap album because it’s supposed to “save the genre”. It’s because he’s one of the greatest ever and doesn’t have a true solo rap album to his name and we want more music from him.

Yeah its called look ma no hands

Crazy how people itt talking like we saying “I’d love to still get an Andre 3000 solo rap record some day” is a war crime or sum s***

Im just saying if you want andre 3000 raps you have his albums with outkastt and all his features from the past 20 years

Ok, and he hasn’t shown a desire to do that. Based on the solo tracks that leaked last year I don’t think his heart’s in it.

Yes and if you want to travel from point a to point b you can use a car we’ve been having for decades
Doesn’t mean you wouldn’t want to skrt off in a brand new UFO when they drop for consumers

I was disappointed as F*** when I saw it was gonna be some flute music. And I’m not ashamed to say it.
Still gonna check for it though
Its pretty funny too like we already have a solo album from him and he was already clearly not interested in doing a rap album back then
Hes been roaming around with a flute for years, that should have been a good enough indication that he wasn't dropping a rap album anytime soon

Good thing André 3000 isnt a car right

Andre wants to make a UFO, not a point A to point B album everyone expects to hear from him
Y'all just don't want to fly in it lol
Good thing André 3000 isnt a car right
Im just saying. You can make that point about anything
Y’all really acting like us having a wish for a certain project impacts 3 Stacks in any way
Why do we have to defend our wishes? Why do y’all act like we saying something that’s out of pocket lol that’s all
