Nook just started talking to me about building bridges and inclines

Honestly at this point in the game you have so much content to go through so you don't HAVE to get it right now but if you go through it you'll eventually get partition walls, pillars and counters for your house. Exclusive to the DLC.

I don't know if the DLC unlocks imediately when you buy it though so idk if you need to progress further to get it or if you get ti right away.
If you get it right away I'd say go for it because the first few months of animal crossing are kinda slow anyways. This could help a bit if your bored.
