Season 1 is top tier anime and works as a standalone.
No one said anything about not watching s1 👀

But its there for shows I think that are different in that space while also easy to get into.
That way the audience of the Thread can still get an idea or be "in" on the mainstream or "Zeitgeist".
One Piece os incredibly hard to get into, with its 1000+ episodes staring at you plus it first few seasons are run of mill along with terrible animation & really fanservice-y. It take a long time to pick up. Most One Piece fans forget that because it was so long ago & also because most of them have grown up with it since then.
Yu Yu on the other hand starts out with the story of Yusuke alcoholic mother, him being a street gang plus how he gets his powers by helping the child, & it being a bit more "serious" with comedic tones. Yu Yu does have a similar situation to where its best parts dont pop off till near the Black Tourney arc with the Black Tape and the whole meaning and sub text of all that. Yu Yu is also not all that sexual outside of Yusuke teasing his own girlfriend, & Yu Yu is still fairly grounded - realitively speaking.
But it imo still starts off strong and different enough, while still being a good entry point into that "type" of Anime.
Same with Ju Ju, FMB & AOT imo.
Thats why that sxn of Shoenn right before Anime explains to further.
Yes its still apart of that style, but if you want to get to know or dip your toes, then these are the best 5 I personally think without being a time sink or too "quirky"/"corny"/"weird".
Theyre good starting points that are still really mainstream that yoi can branch off from while not being alienating.
My only one I feel I forced in there is JoJo. But i needed/wanted a 5th slot amd with JoJo being different and "zanny" enough I thought it would be fine.
I see what you’re saying but I think folks gotta take the sexual / dark s*** on a case by case basis cuz some of the stuff you got on here is sexual too some moreso than others.
That’s not even getting into Hellsing Ultimate which is just crazy and can be too much for any first timer.
But yea YYH is easier to get into than OP FOR SURE

First one is classic, first half of s2 is good but second half is weird especially the ending. It gets insanely rushed. And if you compare it to the manga, it literally goes a whole different way after like the first 4 episodes of s2, but even the manga aside, it just drops the ball for like no reason. One of the weirdest blunders in Abime history and it makes no sense because the show was insanely popular n profitable too.
The first season is a must watch tho & top tier anime that also works as its own insulated show.
Season 1 is very special and works as a standalone.
Season 1 is one of my fav Animes of all time.

Dawg why do people default to the anime of One Piece and not the manga
I caught up to One Piece back in like 2014 and that was one of the most wild rides of fiction I’ve ever read at the time Yes it starts off slow but once it picks up you won’t be able to put it down. And the slow start was by design, cause Oda knew how fast things would pick up later on. The beginning is slow, not bad, and an endearing read in retrospect once your up to current chapter.

Read the manga and just watch the anime for the fights and highlights, that’s the ideal experience. You’d have to have some crippling mental disorder to binge 1k episodes of anything.

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. An anime / manga about a bunch of kids starting a rock band. The author behind it knows his stuff music wise.
The anime kinda cuts off after the first third of the manga, but it's such a good adaptation that you can pick up right where the anime left off in the manga and not miss much
