Dororo was a rather curious production. Seeming like a byproduct of Masao Muruyama’s short lived tenure at Mappa, perhaps also due to covering legacy adaptations I don’t blame them.

Kozuma’s involvement in another Mappa show could be due to production assistants wanting to keep him in rotation, but its safe to assume the series direction by Kazuhiro Furuhashi played a small role. Kozuma given his status was given very important scenes.

Been on the watch list forever

the vision of escaflowne - 7/10

decent little show. i only watched it cause i saw it getting some love on twitter and i have the time since this season is ass. an interesting mix of mecha, fantasy and shojo. it was fairly slow for most of the show but at about episode 19 everything picks up and things really start moving. can't say i really felt a connection to any of the characters but the world was interesting enough. however they don't really explain much of anything about the fantasy world, so they use a bunch of terms and you're kinda just left to fill in the blanks.

the music was a huge highlight for me. there was some orchestral tracks with vocal chanting on some dark souls s***, there was 90's j-pop, bouncy synths, melodramatic strings, and some funky sorta tribal sounds as well, all really cool. i also enjoyed the va's

there's a movie that i guess is just a retelling of the same story with a darker tone and some minor differences. that sounds interesting and i'll probably watch it at some point too. recommended if you just want something with that 90's visual style and tone
