My thoughts on the shows Iāve started this season:
Mushoku Tensei: absolutely amazing and just further reinforces why this show is multitudes beyond Frieren. Take away Rudeusā s***tiness and itās just clear the storytelling, world building, animation, art is on a whole new level. These first 2 episodes are especially fantastic now that we focused on Eris and her arc is starting off amazingly. This is such an easy highlight of the season and I can only maybe see GITS complete with it (9/10)
Goodbye Lara: loving the 90s inspired art here. Really pretty aesthetic. The first episode was pretty much just set up but itās intriguing so far and I will definitely tune into the next episode though Iāll admit it was kinda too kiddish / fairy tale-y for my tastes. (7/10)
Jaadugar: Only saw ep 1 so far. I maintain Yamada is at her best when she does movies but I quite enjoyed the first episode here. The characters have distinct personalities to them and I like the trademark intimacy Yamada lends to framing her characters being interwoven into a pretty razer sharp narrative (7.5/10)
Smoking behind a supermarket: I found this pretty charming and cute. Also quite funny. Everything You and I are Polar Opposites is not. (7.5/10)

The problem is U cant take away rudeus s***tiness from mushoku tensei. he's the main character of the f***ing show.

Well even then itās clear heās become a much more tolerable character in the later seasons
Still not likable but the pleasures of the show such as the world building or the side characters remain elite
Imagine saying a show with a pedophile MC is better than Frieren
It is far better because end of the day, the show is better executed
Imagine saying frieren better when 80% of the show is just them walking around doing mundane s***

Frieren S1 blows that S*** out of the water
Frieren S1 blows that S*** out of the water
S1 I think is better than the first half of s2 of Mushoku Tensei but otherwise Iād take any other cour of it over frieren
Frieren s2 is also absolute dogwater

You clearly don't get what makes Freiren special if you think "80% of the show is just them walking around"
I'm glad you enjoy Diddy Tensei, but you couldnt pay me to get invested in a story where the hero is a pedophile

I get it when they preach to me every 5 minutes about how itās important to enjoy the time you have with your loved ones no matter what yall doing or whatever. Itās not exactly subtle lol

Well, the themes aren't just that (thereās obviously more going on), but I was mainly referring to your critique of the pacing/structure.
A lot of ppl actually like that slower, more reflective, slice of life pacing. For many ppl, that calm "walking around" vibe is the appeal, not a flaw (there's a whole subgenre of anime like this). And clearly it works, bc Frieren has outsold MT in a much shorter time and is more popular/acclaimed overall (and for good reason).

I mean I like Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze, Mushishi and s*** like that too so I like slow pacing. And also I do really like s1 of Frieren. But s2 is extremely repetitive as was parts of s1. Slow pace works when youāre creating something introspective and full of feeling but Frieren tends to repeat itself and hit you over the head with its messages when itās doing it. It feels like itās not confident in its storytelling with how often it runs out of things to say
Binged 1.5 seasons of rent-a-girlfriend last night, sooooo good and the 'will they wont they' trope actually has a realistic reason behind it and keeps you hella invested.
20/10 romcom

I loved it all the way thru s4 but man at some point it really does just feel theyre stretching it way too long

Let's agree to disagree then

this right here. like the whole "friendships outlive lifetimes so cherish them" s*** is cool/intimate but it doesnt mine anything new/intriguing/truly unique plot or character wise while exploring that messaging
makes it feel trite. on top of the narrative letting frieren get away w being an a****** (completely inconsiderate of other people/her friend's choices~time~lives) half the time
Havenāt watched bleach in years, is it worth binging the manga to catchup with the TYBW adaptation?

i'm honestly not a long time Bleach fan or anything (watched most of it later in life) but TYBW is definitely worth watching. you'd get more out of it by at least knowing most of the characters since pretty much everyone shows up at some point

mushishi and haibane renmei > frieren
frieren is overrated, 8/10 though

i only read the manga
i think it's essential because it was part of the big 3 along with one piece and naruto during the 2000s
watching the anime is optional
Forgot they did a fist of the north star 2026 going to watch some
really wanted him as a guest character in MK
