So that means the staff was just ass for the second season lol?
Talented animators work on shows for two reasons.
1) They like the source material
2) Other talented people are working on the show and they want to work with them
The second season of OPM didn't meet either of the conditions for people to want to work on it, ESPECIALLY the second condition. Like, Yama no Susume is the 5000th ranked anime on MAL by score, and 2000th by popularity, but it still attracts the best animators in the industry to come work on it because those animators want to work under and learn from Matsuo Yuusuke who is the chief animation director for the series.
It's the same reason why Princess Connect S2 Episode 4 was randomly an episode of the year contender and one of the best animated episodes of the last ten years. Sakazume Takahito was making his debut as episode director and all the animators who knew him from his work on the Fate/Grand Order commercials came out of the woodwork for the chance to work with him.
this is my roundabout way of saying budget is f***ing irrelevant. creative, talented people want to work on projects of stuff they love, or projects that are, well, actually creative
Tbh if the first dozen episodes aren't hitting look up when the last tournament arc starts and go from there.
I love DB but its not for everyone. It's pretty different than DBZ
yeah i like it
super funny but also i feel like i’ll get tired of it after so many episodes
"watchu mean? I never noticed any sexual innuendo in the show'

They need to check the mf author's harddrive

Nothing but respect for our troops (people who find enjoyment from MHA) 🫡
I know I'm trash but has any of the ships progressed in the show or Manga at all? That's all I care about from the story at this point because I dropped the show a while ago

Well now that I think about it I do recall seeing a thread or two about A24 in this section. Maybe the anime brain rot of discounting actual creators and giving all the credit to a faceless company has begun spreading to the West. I really loved Universal Pictures' work on the Fast & Furious movies I guess.
This is an interesting observation i feel i only see applied to anime. This goes sometimes for me as well, but due to many of us not being that in tune with the industry and many relatively unknown creators, its easier to associate works with their respective studios. Exceptions are iconic directors like satoshi kon, tetsuro araki, osamu dezaki but they've worked on many important shows. I honestly dont know why this is an anime only thing, movie/tv heads are more knowing of the creators and their resume generally, maybe this belief only studios matter is so ingrained people dont feel the need to look up who works on what

I think there just aren't that many hardcore animeheads (me included, I don't be knowin s*** about the creators beyond manga authors
)
In that sense Tranq is probably the only true animehead I know
I also think movies don't tend to be tied to studios as much (?) (I'm not a movie/tv head so I'm not gonna pretend like I'm deeply informed), like you said I always hear talk about at least who is directing the film/TV show.

I think someone who has watched hundreds of anime in another medium would be considered a hardcore enthusiast, at least i think it generally works this way in casuals eyes. But in anime you'll have people with 300 completed anime on mal not know how an anime is made. Like its a distinctly anime thing, its really interesting. And about studios, them marvel stans know all the staff for each movie, its insane, but they may be an exception. Disney, Pixar, sony and Dreamworks are also movie studios that are somewhat similar to anime studios, but their hardcore fans can name the different directors who worked there. I think that the early ages of anime on the internet over here kinda started some core beliefs that are hard to change. Like people still call anime like nge or code geass shonen when that doesnt make any sense, and this started when people brought over these definitions without ever explaining their real meaning. This is just my theory tho, there could be other factors
I'm on my 3rd Chihayafuru rewatch as my next tournament approaches in 2 months............ I will take it home for the thread
