my interpretation is that they live in a universe where some people have hidden/latent abilities. main character’s ability is to create or possibly just open paths to other worlds/universes like the ones they spend basically the whole show within. He’s the reason they end up trapped/stranded in the island world (albeit accidentally) the rest of what happens is mostly because of other ppl’s powers, but I’m sure you understood those parts. a lot of the other side stuff is very symbolic/allegorical like the story the dog tells

That show was so stupidly amazing

so in the end he accepted his place in his reality because along the way he realized that he has the potential to go for the things he desires and change the way things are. he’s not worried about the one girl being with the other dude in reality, cuz he sees her being alive and everyone getting back to reality as a second chance to live life the way he learned he should from his time on the island/in other worlds

You don’t have to call it romcom I think despite being emotional it’s still a romcom
