Same with Xam’d. I’ll save it for the future when it’s time for another mecha.

Final thoughts about Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid:

I finished the two seasons, a lot of highs and lows.

The highs are the sweet moments especially the moments between Kobayashi, Tohru and Kanna and their little family.

I felt like it was important for the anime to develop Kobayashi and Tohru but I feel like their relationship lacks romance, would've preferred if Kobayashi showed her more love, considering this anime talks a bit about being an adult they still have a childish dynamic.

Ilulu annoyed me in the first two episodes she was introduced but they toned her down, good for her, still think she's not necessary but her stories aren't bad either.

The pedo jokes are a nono for me, although for the more serious episodes they don't do them. I still see this as a fetish show, which makes it weird whenever they make it a comfort show.

In terms of animation ofc it looks great because it's Kyoto animations. Just because they usually take wholesome slice of life anime it's a little odd how sexual it is.

Overall I'm ranking it 3/5 stars.

    Best girls: Tohru>Elma>Kobayashi>Ilulu>Lucoa

The best part of Boruto is over anyway the manga story has been almost entirely weird fanfiction

Best part of Boruto was the slice of life academy period where Boruto and co was just kids being kids living in the modern shinobi world

Are you up to date with the manga? been looking for other people who also reads this s*** other than the subreddit

I'm a little bit behind but for the most part yeah

I hate the Ootsuki's and the whole story around them so I haven't had the motivation to keep reading, I really liked the opening parts of the Boruto anime though. It's what Boruto should have been.

Dam I'm a bit torn on them like i fw the design and all but the power scaling is a bit ridiculous esp the 2 "villains" atm. I agree tho the manga tosses all character development or hell even characters in general out the way while the anime focuses a bit too much on it + fillers it seems. So both have their flaws sadly

Happy Birthday Ichiro Itano one of the first big names in sakuga, and the inventor of an anime action staple; The Itano Missile Circus.

Ichiro Itano coming up was already super talented. With an already impressive come up his first works was doing in-betweens on the franchise launching mecha series Mobile Suit Gundam. Must have been an impressive look to have an iconic show be first on a resume. Itano among other animators wouldn’t stand out so much comparatively to other animators of the very limited movements of 70s animations, but he did distinguish himself by having a good designation of subjects in a cut and move the camera more frequently.

Itano felt he had something to prove while working on Gundam, and with the behemoth presence of Yoshinori Kanada within Toshiyuki Tomino’s cavalcade of animators, Itano needed to do more. Of course during the time there were many “Kanada school” followers as his style was becoming very standardized in the action norms. Itano’s missile circus idea originally came about when he was with a college friend where he tied a bunch of rockets to his bicycle, and fired them while riding forward. Itano stated

“…Itano Circus was born because I wanted to absorb Mr. Kanada’s good point’s and find a way to express myself. I think he has made the Itano Circus what it is”

The Itano Circus look comes from a series of animated missiles spreading out or closing in with contrails usually polluting a majority of the frame. In some cases the point of convergence to where the missiles land can look aesthetically pleasing, like here in the very first instance of an Itano Circus from Space Runway Ideon Episode 29. sakugabooru.com/post/show/21663

Take note of how Itano has all missile contrails lead into this very nice optical figure. It’s an incredibly amazing understanding of 3d space for a young animator such as Itano at the time. Even with the somewhat limited animation, it is definitely a step up from Gundam and it’s incredible he was able to achieve this feat in under a year.

On Space Runway Ideon: To Be Invoked (a huge influence for the End of Evangelion btw) Itano has a total mastery over grand space battle epicness contributing to several scenes that convey an extreme sense of scale, even close to rivaling Kanada’s work on Galaxy Express 999.

The cuts from this scene especially work. I love the dynamic shots of the enemy crafts coming into frame, and then coming out of frame on the protagonist. Yes it is older, but there is still an idyllic sense of forward momentum conveyed, and works on a story level too determining the threat of the enemy.

Also here is the full movie if you got time to watch.

For Itano’s next project Super Dimension Fortress Macross at the time he would put himself in the sakuga hall of fame. There is honestly so much work to gawk at here, and it’s amazing it’s so good considering it’s the early 80s.
    sakugabooru.com/post/show/45767
These cuts from Episode 18, have some of the most insane background animation for the time. The super 3d scene of the robot flying through the wall while the camera follows is the stuff only a legend like Itano could follow through with, and might be some of the best mecha sakuga. Full god mode Itano, and it’s close to being his best work. Itano would also serve as mechanical designer for the show as I’m sure animating his own designs was probably easiest for him. He would also serve as animation director on 15 episodes.
