okay so far with the Gainax/Trigger watch
Gurren Lagann: 6.8/10 spectacular visuals, not to crazy about the story or the dialogue, I was actually expecting space travel but got none until the end. The time jump is incredibly confusing, and nothing feels that grounded. Not crazy about the ending. I watched the English dub cause I love Yuri Lowenthal, and he did a great job. Everyone else did great though it is disappointing Hynden Welch couldn't stick around to play Nia. Her voice credits from Starfire to Princess Bubblegum have such an earnestness and wholesomeness to them that when she's changed out for another VA all of that sweetness is somewhat lost. Anyways decent show. Love the eye catches
Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt: 8.3/10 incredibly funny, despite how terribly some of its humor has aged, and some questionable joke episodes. Particularly the booger episode and the shrink episode being kind of s***. I believe those were Episode 5 and 10. Despite episodes like that I found the Transformers and Game Show episodes to be absolutely hilarious. The show is jam packed with references from movies to music, and even though some of its approximations of American animation aren't perfect it is a genuine love letter to Western styles. Considering all the lewdness I wasn't surprised the main inspiration was Drawn Together. Probably one of the best English Dub for an Anime, and most appropriate for the source material.
Kill La Kill: 8.7/10
Fanservice overload that works. A really insane premise that is rife with nudity, but also has themes for fascism and of course the Japanese red ribbon of fate with Life Fibers. Though its a very hyper ADHD induced show none of the characters feel overly annoying, and every episode managed to make me laugh. The fanservice even go's beyond just characters and goes into story literally being the plot. There were some questionable decisions with some characters umm particularly Ragyo's odd behavior towards her daughter but the twists is where the fun comes in. Absolutely unnecessary but funny. I love how this show makes up for Gurren Lagann's overly generic "power of friendship" anime trope but this time it feels less like hand-holding and more like an exercise in self-parody. Also this show has quite a bit of techno-babble and though it doesn't matter in terms of what the show is doing it does give a decent sense of believability to what is impossible hilarity, making the explanations even more funny.
@proper MY BOY PRINCE DID IT
damn i’m bout to be cryin like a b**** on plane ride home lol

that Gurren Lagann shade is disgusting man
you spent half the review talking about a VA that would’ve been completely inconsequential if you’d watched the (infinitely superior) sub
But yo I had no idea that Panty and Stocking w Garterbelt was inspired by Drawn Together, i gotta watch that IMMEDIATELY then cuz Drawn Together was my s*** as pre teen
