When an ED is literally just two still images on screen for 45 seconds each.... I'm looking at you 86 season 1, you lazy piece of s***.
Ok, prison school is definitely way over the top but I enjoyed it. Really good animation too honestly lol
I s*** on whatever the popular punch kick show is because they are bad yes. I s*** on whatever the popular isekai is because they are bad too, yes. If people propped up trash harems as the peak of the medium I would s*** on those too, but at least harem watchers are self-aware about what they are watching.
I'm confused on why you're still trying to bring up exceptions to the rule like some kind of gotcha. I never said being a punch kick show invalidated anything it does good. I thought Chainsaw Man had the second best cinematography of 2022 even though it was my least favourite show that year lol.
There are thousands of anime that aren't particularly good. But those thousands of anime don't get propped up and praised as the peak of the medium like punch kick shows do.
Two things can be true. The perception of anime being oversexualized means it is taken less seriously. The propping up of punch kick shows aimed at teenage boys is also a major contributor to it being taken less seriously as well. Again, you will never have a world where Marvel movies or the Hunger Games will be considered the peak of their respective mediums because film and literature are considered legitimate art forms that adults engage with.

If we are avoiding shows or manga that are shonen that hit the 15-25 age range, then I would say
Manga:
Gunmar Series
Land of Lustrous
Isekai Ojisan
Jitsu Wa Watashi
Sounds of Life
The Flowers of Evil
Anime:
Land of Lustrous
Parasyte? (not sure if not shonen)
A lot of Gundam Shows
Nana
Ahh man I remember my experience watching Nana. That type of high comes every once in a while watching something 😔

Parasyte is kinda shounen esque. I’ve seen that one and it reminded me of jujutsu Kaisen
Mech anime like gundam should be put in the shounen-tier. I never liked those tho.
I’ve heard of Nana not the others, so I can’t really verify if trash or not
BUT
I will say pretty much every shounen I’ve seen is slightly better than parasyte

Gotta put it on the watchlist
I really don’t get what he’s trying to accomplish by saying that shounen isn’t a good gateway into anime
I think it takes a good shounen to fully understand anime and get comfortable with it (for me at least as someone who got into anime in their 20s)
I started out with Akame Ga Kill! which was a good medium of not super childish & entertaining. But I’ve heard most people start with Death Note or Attack on Titan which are also in the same boat,

man Akame Ga Kill is one of the worst shows i’ve ever seen. they literally wait til the episode a character is gunna die, then shoehorn in as many emotional moments for them as possible so that you feel bad during the death scene. so f***ing cringe
