Only ever watched a little Naruto, couple ghibli films, pokemon (not sure that really counts), and a dragon quest anime so im basically starting from scratch lol. Anything good ongoing/current to get into?

I been out the loop but you could start with the top rated series. Like Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist, Kaguya. Anime has something every kind of person out there and for the series I mentioned can get to where they are means they are a hit with a great many kind of fans
I also encourage trying out shows, series that might seem out of your comfort zone at first. Getting into anime and expanding your palette is a fulfilling experience

I would honestly look into OVAs/movies before jumping into a series but that's just me
