JJK always better on the rewatch
That last ep with bug man is really not bad, just gotta ignore the subs for a sec and actually look. Designs are all nice, even that one part isnāt THAT bad
I realized I like any character w heart who feels genuine. Sorry but I genuinely like Naruto as a guy. I even watched that hater ass 50 minute Naruto video and I still like him.
Lol link the video
If you like depressed characters you should watch Welcome to the NHK
I tried that once and it didnāt go so well but itās been years. Maybe a nigga should try again

I donāt wanna read spoilers and I havenāt watched any eps from new season yet but it really has to be one of the better anime out right now along with jojo and chainsaw man
just in general, how do y'all feel about Inio Asano as a writer (mostly because his art objectively isn't that bad)? I know punpun is super popular with most readers and even I was hugely into it at one point of my life and I eventually got into some of Asano's less well known works as well. I guess it's ironic coming from someone who considers themselves an Evangelion fan (maybe it's because evangelion is one work and doesn't necessarily reflect that heavily on the creator, Hideaki Anno, that much in and of itself although it is known that he was heavily depressed during its creation), but it's just that having read a decent amount of the guy's work, there's heavy "loser" vibes coming from it. I know this is crazy because this is like the millionth time I've used this word in this thread but this time, I feel like you guys would agree with me if you went through more of his work. The vibe is heavily depressing and always kind of narcissistically centres on the male character's problems while treating the female characters like they're just accessories to their (the male characters) lives.
one of the problems with it is that it gets treated as very deep and very artsy which it kind of can be, but sort of in the way that doomer art can be deep and artsy. Like on one hand, we get it you're depressed and tbh it's a very vivid and kind of well articulated portrait of depression (most of his works). On the other, almost all the time, the male characters act like indifferent a******s who couldn't care less about a soul around them (especially their partners) and it's treated like it's okay or deep just because it's artsy?
I mean the main issue is that a lot of depressed and sometimes "loserly" guys do actually tend to do/be like this irl. Therefore his works are just somehow a way for them to validate that? Idk but it's like barely anybody who's a fan of his works seems to be willing to accept this as a criticism which I know shouldn't be that surprising but I feel it's enough of a pervasive underlying theme in almost everything I've read by him (including that f\*\*\*ing rape scene in punpun), that it presents an issue more people (specifically his readers), should be willing to address and not pretend like it doesn't exist.
Ultimately, I'm not sure what the point of highlighting this issue even boils down to because his demographic is small enough that it doesn't seem like it should necessarily affect anything? Also, I guess this type of art is going to exist anyway. Honestly, i'm not sure why i'm even bringing all of this up... I guess I kind of just wanted to hear people's thoughts on this (assuming you've read his work).

Itās great but yeah it def one of these anime that are ātoo realā

Are we ever gonna get a new season of dorohedero?
Nope. Not enough money not enough fandom posts not a big enough fanbase.
I've only seen it get into peak hype when they dropped a couple books in my local Kinokuniya in 2021

Not that I think it will or won't but we be seeing even smaller series get season 2s these days lol. They be doin whatever now
My take is I like Vegeta and hate Sasuke
I wouldnāt call them losers. Sasuke just an emo. Vegeta is some alien god so it makes sense he would be arrogant (I havenāt watched DBZ). Neither of them actually hate women soā¦
I get Shinji bc I also had depression and social anxiety. I blame his upbringing / trauma / society. But it wouldnāt take much for him to turn into a joker type character. Couldāve done it in one episode and it would feel natural.
Damn. You gotta give Sasuke the same benefit of the doubt you give Shinji, even moreso tbh

I disagree, re: Evangelion doesn't reflect on its creator. Especially now that the Rebuilds are all out

I think you're making the mistake of assuming that just because Asano's lead characters act a certain way that he is validating the way they act. He's a storyteller telling stories about damaged people. Every character in Punpun would be considered a bad person. He isn't validating it, he's just telling a story about bad people who are self-centered, selfish, narcissistic, depressed, etc. I never once get the feeling that Asano is validating or approving anything his characters do. They're just characters. It feels weird to critique his work about terrible people by pointing out that they are terrible people. That's kinda the point lol
Also, re: THAT scene. Asano is a horror/shock-adjacent mangaka in a lot of ways. He's definitely aiming to make people uncomfortable and people should keep that in mind when recommending his work to others. That being said, I don't have a problem with artists depicting horrible s*** that happens on a daily basis. Not like he was fetishizing it.
This video has so many fundamental misunderstandings about Naruto's thematic underpinning that it isn't even worth getting into the minutia of why he's wrong.
Not that I think it will or won't but we be seeing even smaller series get season 2s these days lol. They be doin whatever now
I think it depends on how active the community is. Devil is a part timer and Classroom of Elites got second wind with how far their light novels have gotten.
Dorohedoro is a finished series that I barely see anyone mention. But hopefully I'm wrong
@MORPHE I'm not even super into knowing animators/different animation styles but your long form posts on Atsushi Nishigori...wow
Some of the best posts I've seen on either site and online in general
I'm assuming your Nishigori post isn't your first time doing this so I hope there's a way hyperlink to all of them or there's a separate thread where they're all eventually posted so they can be revisited easily
why is kagurabachi being hyped up off one chapter
