white base keep stomping everybody with their plot armor, amuro & co gets damaged but destroy other mobile suits/zakus. that basically summarizes pretty well the middle episodes i'm watchin rn.
the series should have been more a war of attrition where zeon slowly deteriorates the heroes and they get, logically, stomped by the end but everytime the white base or the gundam lose a limb, their shield, they got infinite resources and in the next episode it's like nothing happened.

it has pros like the anti-war messages are greatly written, char is hella charismatic and i always want to know wtf he is on but as now, the cos are starting to outweigh the positives.

its already established in the beginning of the show that the federations were losing to the zeons until amuro's father developed a mobile suit strong enough to rival zeon's mobile suits

thats why the gundam is able to just one shot most of the zaku with ease. but even the gundam loses to skilled opponents (i.e ramba ral and char) due to amuro's lack of fight experience. theres another reason why the gundam/amuro is so strong but the show doesnt reveal that completely until later on

now with all this considered, to say that the show is just copy pasting fights would be disingenous. (unless you mean animation wise then i mean its a show from the 70s what do you expect.)

where you're at in the show, both sides just suffered some big losses. the white base lost ryu, who was a valuable memeber to the crew and you even see at the end of that episode and afterwards it f\*\*\*s with the crew mentally, bright's not even able to command in one of the episodes cause of his death.

the zeons lost ramba ral who was a very skilled pilot on their side and was able to go toe to toe with the gundam and they lost garma. this one is pretty big because hes the son of degwin zabi and the zabi family are responsible for the death of char's father. garma realistically had nothing to do with any of this but char killed him all because of his family.

as far as repairments go if im not mistaken im pretty sure theres episodes where the gundam gets damaged and they arent even able to use it in some fights or it even hinders it during fights.
