Thoughts about Dr. Stone New World (Cour 2)
I'm not gonna lie it's getting entertaining and hype. Still cheesy but I had a nice time overall. As usual I enjoy the science / engineering and explanations. I have a theory about who Why-Man is. Though my friend who read the manga said the ending was meh.
It's really crazy to look back and see how much influence manga has had on me life.
Time to reread Vagabond
move over frieren its time for some real dance animation
they already used this technique in season 2, but using light flares at 1:05 and 1:09 to disguise the seamless switch from cgi to 2d and then from 2d back to cgi is genius

the cut at 1:21 looked really clean
Seeing bleach TYBW get an anime reminds how much I need a Katekyo Hitman Reborn remake or at least the final arcs animated
I've got no idea what the hell even going on in JJK at this point
Glad the season is over

Just finished Hyouka and Sound! Euphonium Season 1
Hyouka 8/10
I give this a 8 because the rest of the show is incredibly strong, although I will say the show had a slow start and the last couple of episodes (while good) sort of just petered out, not really connected together like the 2-3 episode arcs that had previously dominated the narrative. The MC of the show took a lot of time to get used to, and once he did he was at least a likable a******. Everyone else I thought was good until some characters towards the end where they haphazardly try to close out romance arcs. I was a huge fan of the Kanta arc, while the mystery didnāt seem that complex at first the way everything was wrapped up it felt like a ton of effort went into the subtle details of everything. And every other mystery felt like the end of the world was at stake, and the visual guides they added in did so much to keep me invested. I have to give massive props to the voice actors as they help carry the show. There is a single episode where it is just the two lead characters trying to figure out a mystery just from a PA announcement at school, and the VAs probably had at least 30-40 plus pages of script to go through. Itās a seriously amazing feat of acting, and the range of emotions and intrigue expressed was superb. Great show, but I wish the start and end gripped me a bit more, and given the show was unfinished much like the novels, itās hard to ask for more.
Sound! Euphonium Season 1 9/10
Directed by Ishihara, it is no wonder this is the studioās ace director. At first I was a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of characters in the first few episodes. I canāt imagine how difficult it was drawing thirty plus characters who all have their individual look and character, but the high quality conducting of Shoko Ikedaās CAD managed to bring everything together. What surprised me the most was how organic all of the interactions and conflicts were. Every single character had some kind of interpersonal struggle going on with each other and it didnāt feel superficial since band culture can spur competitiveness and admittedly be toxic. And the best part is no one became borderline unlikable, every reason for someoneās actions was communicated effectively through body language, monologues, and even just their own playing. While sharing some superficial similarities to Hyouka, with Hyouka having a more rickety and mystery prone atmosphere, conversely Euphonium is just as shiny and glossy as the instruments they play. The compositing and lighting is beautiful, and feels authentic given the story. Thatās another big takeaway, authenticity. While the story never results to the super a***ytical note reading that could easily bore those unfamiliar to classical music, the playing in the actual show is super well executed. It isnāt the most flashiest thing like in Kids on the Slope, but the engagement and tension felt by wanting to see these performers succeed is gratifying in the long run. As an electric bass player myself, I can somewhat relate to just how underrated and underdog like the bass section of a brass ensemble is. Maybe itās just the love of the playing or like Kumiko says āI like the euphoniumā and it is really nothing more than that. The passion of this show exudes on screen, and it is simply delightful.
